Ok not really. :D
But i did just record "Acoustic Minds" and mix one of their tunes for about an hour.

Which of course means its not done yet, but i was curious on some different opinions as to if you think im heading in the right direction.

Thanx.

sounds nice..

I would tighten that snare sound a bit? It almost sounds like it's competing with the kick sonically.

the vocal harmony line is a little loud sometimes near the end of the tune.

other than that...man it's mixed really nice so far. that solo guitar fits in there so nice. good stuff.

The vocals seem really quiet compared to the acoustic.

Also.. is there bass yet? I'm not hearing much for low end.

Nice tones on most everything else.

I'm actually ok with the loose snare, fits the song.

Hmm ok ill check that.
The vocals still needs some fader riding IMO

I rolled some 60hz out of the bass guitar so i could turn it up without overbassing the tune.
I checked in the studio, car stereo, and little boom box so far.
I like the bass sound thus far.
Its not bassey but its audibly prominent, so im happy.

Thanks for the listen and comments Velvet.

Those guitars sound extremely pleasant... what was the signal chain for the cleans?

Anyways, the vocals sound a bit harsh on my pc speakers and really quiet... like if I was at a show, I'd say "I can't really hear her." The drums aren't really my thing but I don't listen to this type of music.

Those guitars though... they sound supreme.

Yeah?
Thanks bro. :)

Well, I listened too it again thru the V8's. Still sounds pretty good. Only a couple of minor things that stand out.

- Main vox level is good in spots, low in other
- not a big fan of the hand sqeak on the acoustic
- bass is a tad boxy sounding (if thats the word)

Overall it sounds really good! :D

Electrics were di'd with amplitube.
Acoustic was a u87 at the neck's 12th to a trident S-20. Then i used a room sim reverb.

I think the drums overall need to be pushed backwards a bit...I do music SORT OF like this, and the kick's usually almost subliminal...the vocal's getting dominated a lot. It's not a nit, I think it's a big deal.

If you actually ARE riding a fader, bring her vocal up early...the first line of the song she sounds like she's gradually coming in from left field. I assume you're actually enveloping, which makes life easier.

I love the way just about everything SOUNDS, by the way...the balance is a bit off is all. Maybe listen in a couple of days and agree or don't, LOL. Nice work recording this.

Yours is good advise Harris.
I dont do this type of music often, and this more up your alley.
You should come over and help me mix it.
:)

Anyways, yeah ill take a differnent perspective here in an hour and see what happens.

Thanks.

Hmm. I for one don't think the drums are too loud. On the contrary. You have to make the Bass and the BD more distinct. They're not very easily seperated in the mix. Guitars sounds nice, but they won't save the rest of the instruments. Vocals needs a little de-essing, and comp. Bass needs definition, probably compression would put it more "out there" too. BD is "fixed" weird, and tends ro rumble around 100hz -ish, which makes the whole mix sound messy. Also look into low cutting some of the guitars a little higher.

Your reverbs sounds nice. Really nice. Blends really well, and doesn't taker over the mix, though there's lots of it. But be careful. The reverb could get a little too much when mastered.
