OMG!
My parents said that I can spend $500 dollars that was saved up for my college education on monitors. It's only $500, not much for college.

I know you hear these questions everyday, and I'm sure you get sick of them... but deal.

For this price range, I know I'm stuck with at most a 6.5" woofer. For the most part anyway.

I'm very interested in a few different monitors.

I hear alot about the Yorkville actives.. how are these? I will not have any way of hearing them.. will they offer much over the Event TR6's?

For $400, I can get:

-Fostex PM-1
-Event TR6
-Yorkville YSMP(a little more)
-Alesis Monitor One MKII actives

This is just from flipping through a Musicians' Friend catalog. I know I can find stuff used on Ebay for alot less.

Are there any suggestions? I'm going to Guitar Center this weekend (hopefully). I know it's a very subjective thing, but I'd like to see some opinions.

I would also like to hear quite a bit on the Yorkvilles. If they're that good that I would be alright just taking a chance with them.. I might consider it.

I know it gets old.. but meh. Just answer this for me?

Also, how are the Samson Resolvs?

I'd have to coax my parents into it. They're being pains. Heh.

I guess I'll just make my decision at Guitar Center. I was planning on listening to the BX8's anyway.

I have the Samson Resolvs 65a's and I like them. I upgraded to them from the maudio bx5's and found an improvement.

The bx8's are great for the money also.

Pay a little bit more and get the Yorkvilles, you won't be dissapointed.

I bought the BX8s last month and they're doing great. I'd have to suggest them.

So, I went to Guitar Center...

I inquired about the BX8's and the douchebag basically yelled at me that they were pieces of shit. So I skipped those and made them hook up some Alesis M1 MKII's so I could A/B them with a pair of Mackie HR824's, and some Event 20/20's.

The 20/20's actually sounded weak compared to the HR824's and the MKII's.. maybe I'm retarded, but they did. Since I couldn't afford the Mackie's and wanted to hear more, I decided to walk across the room to hear some KRK Rockit 5's and 8's. The dude turned the 5's on.. these things sounded BIG. Seriously. I realllly wanted to hear the 8's now.. DAMN. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the 8's.

Has anyone heard anything bad about these? Better yet, does anyone have them?

Discuss.

I used KRK V8s before switching to the ADAMs............. I liked them... a bit mid-heavy maybe, but they worked for me (until I heard the ADAMs!) ;)

Now if I could afford ADAMs.. I'm sure I would love them too. :D

I was really digging those KRKs, though. $500 for the pair. Screw college.

Is it possible that they don't carry the BX8s, and that's why he wasn't too excited about them? Really, for someone to react strongly against the BX8s, there must be some other motive. They're great monitors.

They carry them.. I looked at the boxes. They just didn't have them set up.

He said they were "made by a company in china that also makes computer speakers". As if it was supposed to mean something. He was a douche and a half. I'm pretty set on the KRK's though. I'm glad he suggested them.

Just got Fostex PM-1's. Rumor here in central Norway is that they are some of the first monitors you can reach (pricewise) that actually works for mixing. Any lower than that in prize and you might as well use your stereo speakers.
Having said that, they have a good word attached to them over here.
And I love them.
There are also examples of people here that have replaced monitors costing 3 times as much with PM-1's.

[Thinking to self] Goodness... This thread is eight MONTHS old... I hope that guy would've found monitors at least seven months ago... Not even thinking about my feelings for Fostex... Whoops - I just thought that, didn't I... [/Thinking to self]

My coffee has that hazlenut stuff in it... It's nice once in a while, but the Wife mixes in some flavored coffee with the rest of the regular ("good") coffee. Now every damn cup tastes like hazlenut.

It's enough to drive you hazle-nuts!

I'm gonna suggest Event TR-8's. I have the TR-8 XL's (Same speakers with a bit more powerful amps). They rock, pretty good response all around. I haven't heard the KRK Rockit 8's, but I definitely liked the 5's, and the TR-5's are good too.

It is an anomoly of the new server, old "related" posts at the bottom of a page you have responded to.

But, we don't care! Monitors are monitors, and we want to post about them!

I have a pair of the KRK Rokit 8's and i like them a lot. I was actually debating between the KRK's and the BX8's but decided to go with the KRK's because i think they have more of a flat sound, they're more true than the M-Audios.

Good luck!

- Mike

I use PM-1s, sound awesome, well..better than anything i've used before. I can mix on them, very clear, not too heavy on lows mids or highs.

Future Music shootout rated the Yamaha MSP3 Best overall, M-Audio BX5s best accuracy, Fostex PMO5 best listening and KRK best for rock only mixing.
