okay, Right now im just beginning to put my home vocal recording setup back together after taking about a 2 year hiatus from recording.

the room i am working on is about 10x14 rectangle shaped

i have a pair of Nady Sm350a active monitors
and a single behringer truth b2030a

i am recording through a m-audio omnistudio usb, here are the inputs

i was wondering

1. is there any advantage/benefit in using a 3rd monitor?

if the answer is yes..

2. what would be the appropriate way to set it up. How to position the monitors and Is it possible to have the third monitor output in mono while the pair of nady's are in stereo

well, you *may* benefit in when mixing, if you can wire #3 to have a quick reference to mono. as this implies, your stereo image will be destroyed by using all 3 at the same time--- i cant see any way to avoid this.

thanks. im having a hard time finding a single 2030a monitor to make it 4

Not really.

If you want mono, you can just switch to mono output to your stereo monitors. There's no relevant difference between that and playing mono through a third speaker.

Also remember that the Truth is going to sound inherently different than the Nadys' just because it's a different model of speaker. When switching between stereo and mono with the third speaker, you're also going to be switching monitor frequency response, which adds another variable your ears will have to translate. If you just switch to mon playback in your Nadys, OTOH, that will not be an issue.

Now if your third monitor were something like an Auratone or some piece of crap, that different response could be helpful for helping you mix for a crap mono playback (though with the demise of AM music radio, that's not the thing it used to be). The old "if it sounds good through this crap, it'll sound OK anywhere" theory. But that's not what the Berhinger Truths sound like; they're almost too good (so to speak) for that kind of use.

Go ahead and play with it, though; maybe you'll like it and it'll work for your ears. But I don't see it on paper as being any real advantage over not using it.

i greatly appreciate the advice. Im just going to look for a second b2030a to maybe alternate monitors for checking my mixes. If i can get 1 more i can quickly alternate between 2 different sets of monitors, a pair of standard pc speakers, and my Sony MDR v6 headphones

yeah..the second monitor would be a good idea.

maybe a better one would be to ebay it off and get something else though..
