i record vocals and guitar on one track cuz iam just a songwriter not an engineer by any means but love the didgital quality. i keep gettting mono using track 1 and i keep getting my pan set to the right side only..how do i get it on right and left?..please help manual is useless

I think it's because you must be panning the track to one side. Otherwise it should sound dead center. Or you only have one monitor turned up on playback... Are you listening back with headphones? It should be dead center by default, unless you pan it one way or another on playback or mixdown.

nope

iam using 2 great monitors and i have great headphones....i keep reading about 7/8 tracks are stereo and and 1 and 2 are mono or something..maybe thats my issue

All single tracks are mono and can be panned anywhere from extreme left to right, across 2-channel stereo mixdown. So, when you're listening to any given track (even 7 or 8), unless it's panned, it should sound dead center.

Even if you mixdown tracks 1-6, if you do so without panning each track somewhere left to right, you will wind up with a mono mix coming out of stereo speakers. With two speakers, mono is essentially when each speaker has exactly the same level of signal on a given sound (voice, guitar, etc.) Most people deliberately put vocals dead center in the mix, which is actually mono (assuming no stereo effects have been added to that track.

This is all to say I have no idea why you're having the issue you are. Hope it resolves...

Lol

cuz iam a idiot anyways i printed out the part of the manual i need on adobe from Musicians Friend and i hope this is gonna work instead of the damn manual bouncing all over the place...now do i have to mix down 1 or 2 tracks?..iam use to a Yamaha MT 120...So this is quite a experience..but thanks for all your help just the same i greatly appreciate it :D

by default tracks 7 and 8 are panned left and right....tracks 1 - 6 default to panned center, but of course can be changed. Is your 1 recorded track on 7 or 8? That would explained your problem.

If so, you can just do a track exchange to another track (1 - 6)

hey thanks for the advice

 i'll try using the other tracks...now do still have to mix down?...to get my effects and my panning dead center? all i wanna record is guitar and vocals nothing else :D

depends on what you're doing with your recording. My vf08 doesn't have the internal CD burner, so when I burn to an CD recorder, I can leave the tracks as they are...on track 1 or whatever. If you need to get the recorded tracks to tracks 7&8, just perform a "bounce" operation (vf80ex owners correct me if it's different on the ex). It's easy...just read the manual.

LOL read the manual huh

its like this i went to musicians friend printed off the manual and put it all in the steps and the order it shouldve been in..now i thank your guys for all your advice but ive figured out what i was doing wrong..i was burning a CD prematuraly and not listening to the way the song was recorded ..so about 4 CDs later i realized i needed to mix in stuff like effects and correct the panning..iam use to recording on tape with a yamaha MT120 but love the sound of the VF80EX...but im use to recording and being done with it with a couple takes
