Hi Everyone

Please help me.

Kit that i have got consists of the following:
Laptop Windows Vista
M audio Fast track pro
Ableton live lite 4
Behringer xenyx1202
2 mic's
3 guitars - nylon aquistic, steel aquistic and electric
1 yamaha keyboard
1 amp with speakers
Setting up for live gig is no problem as I route all the equipment outputs in to the xenyx1202 and run the control room out put l + r to the amp this gives great sound.

The problem comes when i want to record and have to make use of the Fast track pro, it only has 2 mic inputs and 2 TRS input on the back wich i cant seem to get any signal from. If i run the control room outputs from the xenyx1202 to the mic in put on the fast track pro i get a destorted sound. That is over and above the electrical shock you get on all the gear, not lethal but the same as what a 9 volt battery would feel on your tonge.

Please help me with a proper wiring diagram for my equipment and how best to set it up.
Many thanks

You're not gonna like this.... but

Is this set up for recording a live show?

If it is for a live show try connecting the Main Outputs of your mixer to input 1 & 2 M Audio box. Make sure the inputs are switched to line and are recording at the same level. As long as your not overloading the Main Mix you should get some reasonable levels. The Control Room outputs on this mixer are made for monitor speakers.

If you want to make a typical studio recording this is not the way. You'll want to make a flexible recording that is more than just the stereo sum of your performance. In this application you can just throw out the mixer and over dub everything until you can afford something with more inputs.

the reason for the distortion is because you are taking the line signal from the mixer and plugging it into a mic level input. The line is too hot for the mic input you may even blow it out. I don't know much about the interface, but maybe if you run a di box between the mixer and mic inputs you might have a chance. Or make use of the trs unless they are meant for outputs.

Also the TRS inputs are for effects such as a compressor. The only other input the fast track pro has is spdif digital input on the rear. If you need 4 inputs you need to use a splitter and set your channels to left and right. If your signal is too hot there is a pad button on the front to lower the pre amp level. I use this interface with an se gemini and get great results.
hope this helps
