I Have A Ring In My Vocals

Can I put in my 2 cents and mention what you've all seemed to miss? Young Smitty's using a closet with carpet on the walls as a vocal booth.

Carpet on the walls only damps certain freqencies, and those only unevenly. What he's hearing in his recordings is probably at least partially the fault of his chosen recording locale.

YS - have you tried coming out of the closet (so to speak) and recording your vocals somewhere else?

whoo! temper temper....
most a these cats wanna help you there smitty! Spewing at them is not gonna help your knowledge quotient out.

:o

Tap the mic, do you hear the ring? sometimes the body of the mic resonates, the octava ldcs are notorious for that.

Right you are Farview. I have a V57, and have a love/hate relationship with it. However, it does sound cool on fingerpicked steel string acoustic.

Check this out:

The reviewer notes a ringing in the body of the MXL 1006. The 1006 is one of the model #'s under which the V57 was sold.
