I finally bought the BlueSky system one!

wow!

uh............WOW! These speakers sounds good, looks good, and they even smells good! I setup the system, and for about 4 hours now, I'm listening to my favorites CDs. I put the sub under the desk, between the 2 satellites. I'll try a few place for the sub in the next days, but, man, this is... well.. uh... (as you see, I can't find the good words to explain what I hear with these monitors!)

I'm impressed. OK, I'm ruined for a few weeks, they cost me 2760.06$ CAD (tx in) but , again, WOW!!

Strangely, I hear more reverb on my CDs with these monitors. I also notices a few song where the vocals or guitars are panned about ..lets say 10-15%, and I thought they were 0%. And these arent CDs I hear for the first time. I hear a lot of details I never heard before

Anyway, I'm really satisfied, I have some mixes to do on the next few days, so I'll post some other comments soon.

Yeah, I noticed. BUT, I do not only hear new stuff on the bright side.

I just listen to NIN-The Fragile, and in a few song, I heard new bass stuff. ...even in "The Wretched" witch is my favorite song on both CDs.

a VTB-1 is 500 Canadian, a C1 is 400 Canadian.

I mean jesus.

Thats a lot more than in the US.

I'm from Montreal. The BlueSky System One is 1395.00 USD. It'S 2055.00$ CAD.

2055 + TX (in quebec) = 2363.00.

They I paid 2760. So yes, it's bit expensive here

About the VTB-1, it'S 399$ in Montreal.
I bought the SP C1 for 379$

Vancouver island, on the west coast. But most of the prices i'm getting are from vancouver.

It seems that the Blue sky's are the same price over here as they are in montreal.
i think that's just because all gear is more expensive in Canada.
The C1 is 199 US, which is about 299 Canadian. BUT, i would have to pay 400 canadian for it! Extra 100 bucks for something.

Were you implying that my figure are incorrect? I'm fairly certain they are close, and things in canada are a lot more expensive than in the US, and of course i mean ontop of the exchange, as i clearly stated in my post.

I mean the price you paid for the blue skys prove that.

Canada has pretty high tarriffs. I don't recall exactly what they are but a lot of business don't bother selling their products there because the added costs puts them out of competition. The few times I've worked for companies that had to deal with canadian customs we were looking at around a 20% increase in cost.

oh yes, your close ambi, 199$ is actually 293$. I was just posting this link for everybody. It's a very useful link. Yes, like I wrote too, this is more expensive here in Canada. I guess it mainly depends where the product come from. Everything vary everywhere.

ex: Mesa Boogie! A friend told me that in France, a dual rectifier is about 140% more expensive than in canada. And in canada, there are more expensive than in US.

the reason things are more expensive here is because of import taxes, duties, tarrifs, GST added to imports, shipping, etc etc etc.


i used to ship anything reasonably expensive in from the US but recently i've discovered it's just not worth it. even though the prices at the local stores seem horrendous in comparison ($80 for a single ECM-8000, for example) they actually turn out being lower or equal than the total of getting a product shipped from the US and taxed to hell by customs.

Basic but all good! I won't have to sell any of this stuff or worry about outgrowing it for a long time (well maybe the delta 44 but it's cheap).

I'm thinking along the lines of "gear for life". I know that there is no such thing as gear for life, but stuff that will last for a really long time.

IE, my ART studio mp. i think i outgrew it before i plugged it in, but it can still be useful for bass! Id rather buy fewer pieces of gear, but higher quality.

Hey Kryogh I heard the Blue Sky System One about a month ago and they blew me away as well. I am currently debating whether to buy the System One or the Mackie HR824. Did you do any comparison of two and does anyone else have any thoughts between the two. I know in the end I will pay about the same but the System One does have the SUB which seems like a nice advantage over the Mackies. But I am really interested on your opinion on how your mixes change once mixed with the System One and if having a sub will affect the ability to mix the bass correctly when listening to a CD in a Car or system without the Sub. Just wondering if a the Sub would have us mix too much bass because the System One can handle it well and not translate well to non SUB stereo's. Congrats are your purchase they do sound incredible.

I bought the BleuSkys 3 days ago so...it's too early to let you know how they changed my mix. What I can assure you, is that I KNOW they will help me get better mixes. The sub have it's own gain knob so, you can try a few different approach STA/SUB. I really like this control you cant have on other monitors.

I A/B, with my fav CDs and some of my mixes, BlueSkys with Genelecs 1031, the HR824, 20/20bas, and a pair of KRK (sorry cant remember the model). And I bought the BlueSkys. AND Even if the famous Genelec 1031 were the same price, I would have bought the blueSky. They really impressed me. Everything is present. I also asked for a CD I never heard. I dont know what it was. Jazzy stuff... I once again A/B in the BlueSkys and the Genelecs. And I was once again impressed by the BlueSkys. Clarity, presence, precision.

I dont dislike HR824, but, damn! They dont have the clarity of the blueskys (to my ears).

I think maybe your perspective on subs and their affect on mixing is a little innacurate.

You make it sound as if you are adding something to the source material by listening to it with the addition of a sub. Those bass frequencies are there whether you can hear them or not on your monitors. Apparantly monitors with 6.5 inch woofers can't produce as much bass, or as low, so sometimes your left in the dark with the low end frequencies. that doesn't mean they disapear though, so it could make them sound worse in a car or home stereo, because they bass frequencies could be totaly messed up and you wouldn't know. Now the mackies have large woofers, almost 9 inch's, and apparantly the bass is phenominal (people say that sometimes people think there is a sub in the room along with them because there is so much bass), but i would think that the bass wouldn't be nearly as phenominal as in the blue sky system, which has a dedicated 12 inch sub just for the bass.

Knowing exactly what is happening with the low frequencies of your mixes, will help you mix them better and make them sound better, which would make them sound better in a car or home stereo. BUT, assuming the mackies also have a good bass extension, you should be able to do the same thing with them.

But then there is the issue of the mackies woofer handling bass AND midrange information. The blue sky's midrange driver just does midrange, and the sub just does bass frequencies. So that might make the blue sky's a little more accurate?

It's hard to say but i think one thing people can agree on is that they are both exceptional monitors, and either one you pick will sound awesome and improve your mixes a lot. You have to decide with your own ears, and of course, the style of YOUR music should affect your choice. But i'm still in the same boat as you, and looking for some conformation on these thoughts i have, and more comparisions from unbiased listeners. Theoretically i think the blue sky's should be better, but theoretically things don't always pan out.

I haven't heard the blue sky's, and the mackies just breifly a year or so ago on some recorded vocals and guitar. So i can't judge them, but i am going to try and give them both a listen soon. I prefer the look of the mackies, (asthetics don't mean shit i suppose, but they are strangly alluring), and not having to deal with a sub would be nice, but then again having a sub would be nice!

I have a 15 inch 1200 watt velodyne sub in my room... and I keep it turned off.

Sure there is a difference in bass... but my little 6.5 inch kevlar woofers really pound out the bass by themselves. There is not all that much content in the ultra low freq that demands a sub in most music....

But this is just my opinion
