Hi i am completly new to recording and have recently bought a soundcraft spirit folio notepad mixer and a samson c03 condensor mic for vocals, now i understand that the mic has to be powered and the mixer has a mic power button only when i put the mic in chanel 1 push the mic power button all i get is fuzzing and a rumbling but no vocal output, i read a thread that said it might be a soft-start but ive waited a few minutes and its still the same. wot am i doing wrong.
your help would be greatly appreciated

Yoy might try a non powered mic just to see that the board passes signal. In that way, you can better isolate the problem. If the board works with a non powered mic, then you know the board is good. Check the mic and your cable in a known-good mixer (known to work with powered mics). If it does, you know your mic and cable are good, leaving your phantom power as the culprit. This info will isolate where your problem is

the mixer does work with non-powered mics as i have a few non powered mics that work fine, i dont have another mixer to test it on i do have a Korg d4 hard disc digital recorder is there anway i could bypass the mixer and plug the mic straight in to the recorder as im not sure if the recorder has phantom power.
