I don't know why I covered this.....

Great little tune, Rami. Very cool that you got it done so fast. I'd recommend just dropping the vocals a bit... and the verb on the drums seem a bit thick. Besides that, sounds great!

Thanx Po. I just did those 2 things.

I also re-recorded the guitar earlier today, so there's a different mix up.

I think it's good overall. I don't know the original so I have nothing to compare it to. The only critique I have is the kick/bass relationship. Mostly the kick. It's a bit "woofy" if that makes any sense. It might not be a problem though if you drop it in the mix a little more. That thing is really thumping right out front and it's blocking out some of the bass gtr.

Thanx man. Yeah, I left the bass drum pretty boomy and raw. The original has a pretty un-defined low end in it.

I forgot how awesome Bill Withers is - what a great tune.

Sorry but mid way I had to go back and check out the Bill Wither's version again. I think the song needs some black man vocals :)

I do like some parts of your version more than the original. Specifically what was said above about your version having more variation which is cool.

There's just something about Bill's voice. Such feeling.

That song sure takes me back-good version of it, Rami.
To my ears the vocal is a bit too dry, especially with it centered, a bit of reverb could give a more smooth sound to the vocal.

Yeah, he seems to have gotten lost in shuffle a bit. It's too bad.

Can't argue with that. This song would have never crossed my mind to cover if it didn't happen to come on the radio while I was tuning my drums. So, I just started playing to figure out the drum beat. 3 hours later, I had the whole thing recorded.

Thanx man. It's the least dynamic song I've ever done. I kept wanting to do more on every instument, but held back to keep it sort of close to the original. Same thing when I mixed down. I was tempted to try and make it more like my mixes, but I kept it sort of "dull" like the original.

Thanx Anfontan. I'll check that out.

I think the vocal levels are good. I like your hi hat sound, and the overall sound of the drums are great. Maybe the bass and kick could be just a little louder? Nice work.

Alright, listening on cheap headphones.

I know you mentioned not wanting punchy bass drum, but I think in this case its really not a matter of punchiness, it just seems weak. The rimclicks seem like they're disconnected from the rest of the drums. The hats and bass drum feel together, but the clicks almost seem....too dry? Hard to pinpoint on this shitty listening device :P

Great playing all around though! Nice grooving on everything! :)

I fucking love this tune. I've probably done about 20 arrangements of this..and when I read your thread title, no shit, this was the first tune that popped into my head before I opened it.:D

I like your take on this....I'd beef up the bass guit as it's one of the major components of the groove. Vox are cool...mebbe thin in the lower mids. The overall arrangement is definately raw, but that's the vibe your going for and you captured that feel well.

If you're ever, ever drunk enough to want keys on a tune, this one's it.:D:drunk:

Thanx Tey. If I even want to add keys, I know who to call.:)

This tune sounds exactly as I intended it to sound. I know it's not a modern sound, but it's not a modern song. Thanx for the help everyone.

Ok you bastards. You convinced me to make a more "modern" mix (whatever that means), for lack of a better term.

I tightened up the low end a bit and hopefully made it more punchy. I'm torn between going this route and leaving it more boomy like the original. But anyway, now I have 2 mixes I can choose from.

Pricks.

:D
