I definitely prefer the first mix. I like how the jangly rhythm guitar is more mellow... not as "biting". The levels seem well matched, too. The only problem is the glitch at roughly 2:38 (bad cable?).

Great job, this has a really good feel.

this is my band. please, comment.
tell me the error of my ways!!

Dammit! I've been wondering who's it was. I have a different mix of this, but didn't know who it belonged to. I like this tune a lot. The one I already had is just "orbit.mp3". There are certain things I like better about the original mix, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe because I've heard that version a couple of times already. I'll give a better listen tomorrow... my ears are shot, and I should've been asleep hours ago.

Very nice...I like the composition alot. It
has a RadioHead quality to it.

My only mix critique is some slightly strong
T's and S's. Example: 1:49-1:50..T syballance is strong...judicious use of a multiband compression can even things out.

Very pro composition.

Liked the mix and the song...vocals very good too...I honestly don't remember the first orbit post so don't know what was changed...gibs

would you guys ilke me to post the first rough mix again? I think it would be neat to compare the two.

I put up the first rough mix on xdrive. Downlaod it, compare it to the finished version (above) and tell me what you think.

I downloaded the first link you posted for this one. Nice flow to it. For some reason it reminds me of some of the more mellow Alice in Chains stuff in the verses. I like the interplay of the drums and bass a lot. Maybe raise the vocal just a little bit. I love all the different sounds you got going on. Great stuff.

Sounds very good, and moody, my kind of music.

Good mix, I agree with Ric about the RadioHead thing.

Keep em coming.

Hey Ametth,

I've been holding on to the old version of this for a while now, making all my cool indie friends listen to it. They all love it too! I think the added brightness of the guitar gives it a cold and barren feeling, as opposed to a dark but humid sound on the old one (are my desriptions intelligeable?) I mean that in a good way, in that it's appropriate to the subject, etc. Only criticism of the new one is that the lower vocal seems to my ears to drift out of tune on the first phrase on the word "can't". With all due respect to everybody else, this is my favorite that I've D/l'd from this site.

BTW, I'm shining your ass so you'll send the CD, punk :D

the cd...sorry to everyone who wants a cd. I've just been a lazy bastard and haven't got around to making copies and sending them out.

But here is my promise to you all. I will make copies tonight. I will mail them out by this weekend. you should get it by next week.

Again sorry for the delay.

ametth

oh yeah, if anyone else wants copies email me your address and I'll get them out. I'm gonna make 50 copies of it by this weekend.

Hey man, downloaded this a day or two ago - just haven't gotten around to posting yet. Good stuff - liked the samples. Can't give a better critique 'cause I'm drinking. :) Did you record this via mini-disc too? If so, I'm damn impressed with the sound quality.
Keep up the good work & all that sort of stuff - does indeed put me in mind of RadioHead.

I was hesitating to download the new version, because I hate downloading the same tune more than once. But I did anyway and I'm glad I did. It sounds much more polished than the first version which sounded great to me in the first place! Great job!

A pretty effective establishment and use of mood. Kinda dark and hypnotic. Sounds European to me. I feel like the first guitar that comes in could be slightly brighter. I like the tremolo effect on the guitar.

I agree that the vocals seem to have some intonation issues, but oddly enough, the tension of that out-of-tuneness accentuates the lonely and alienated vibe of the song.

I don't know. There's something "movie soundtrack" about this song that I like. And it's definitely a European indy film in my head.

Well, just goes to show ya that I'm full of shit ;). Everyone else seems to agree that the new mix is better. It doesn't matter all that much, the song is so cool to begin with. This is definitely one of my favorites. My friend Austin liked it a lot, too. I wonder if the fact that the new mix is LOUDER is affecting the comparisons, though. I tried to A/B at close to the same level, which required boosting the first mix a bit.
