I Cant Help You

Song structure: when that great big dramatic opening seques into the acoustic, then the drums announce themselves and it all settles into that groove, it's really effective. After that, that business that starts about 2.20 is something new for you. Your stuff keeps rising above itself all the time. This is really sophisticated.

Sound: the sound on the acoustic is really sexy (how'd you get that bouzouki sound?), as is the electric at 2.20. You're getting close to that metal crank Kinks guitar sound here. Really nice.

Performance: interesting how the singing gets better and better, yes? Is it a matter of confidence, do you think? The bass sounded fine to me - it's the bass that really stands out in the 1.22 and 2.20 segments. I'm not sure about the execution of the final electric guitar segment - it's the right thing to play, though.

Question: Are you planning to add something to the long instrumental bit at the end from 3.15? I can hear a random chorus of little trebly voices like on Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles, and another instrument. :D

Overall: bouncy, exuberant hopelessness. I like this one a lot.

And dobro wondered why the rest of us don't post too much. Emeric intimidates me :).

Great job once again. I loved that repeated transition to the acoustic guitar part. And I haven't even listened yet on my monitors as I sit here waiting for someone to show up in the new chat room. Just a TB and my MDR-7506s.
That growly bass sound at ~1:44 was awesome! POD?
It actually meowed... :)

LOL! I echo that pglewis...same here. Great sounding mix Emeric,(as always). I dont hear any of the "slopy bass" your talking about though..man I thought it was an incredible performance. Your vocals really suit your own sound and thats a complement. Enjoyed it a lot...David

Dobro: Had to go to dictionary.com for "bouzouki". The mandolin type sound is my cheapo CBS acoustic tuned Nashville. I was thinking of some vocals at the long ending, not sure. Execution of the end part, yeah it's sloppy at the very end, added last minute. :) thanks for checking it out.

pglewis: yeah right! :)

drstawl: thanks for listening, yeah I ran the bass through a pod.

David: hey glad you liked it!

As I told you in an email, I got my new monitors (Event Trias @8th Street for $499 and free UPS ground shipping, for anyone I haven't mentioned this to...thanks again C7!) and this is one of the first tunes by anyone from the Home Recording BBS that I blasted.

Great sounding, and I like where the tune goes musically. Like Doc said, the bass was particularly sweet. Like everyone else mentioned, I'm curious to hear what you're going to do with the ending...it kind of hangs there.

I never know if I should feel inspired or disappointed in my own work when I hear your mixes. As always, I look forward to hearing more.

Haven't been able to listen in a while, and here I see a new Emeric tune, so had to listen......do I ever say anything more meaningful than "great as usual" when I hear your stuff?.....the 2:20 thing was cool.....the whole song is....sheeeeeeshe, great as usual......gibs

Another great song, performance, and recording.

Your recordings make you sound like your playing right here in my living room.

Also sounds great at any level.

You may have reached recording Nirvana.

Finally got a chance to blast it through my GINA and Events and all of the rough edges I previously heard were all the fault of my crappy TB card. WOW.
The bass still meowed beautifully.
Will this be on your next CD?
Of course I'll be needing a copy of that.

Cmiller: The ending; I think some vocal thing. A little like verse 2, but more sparse. Don't know for sure. Inspired... I certainly get that from your songs! Thanks for checking it out!

Gibs: All I can say is great you like it! That's all that really matters. Just songs for listening, and hopefully interesting listening.

GT: Good it has some sense of realism, I'm in a small room, so maybe that's it. As for Nirvana, recording is a secondary thing to me, but a lot of fun.

drstawl: This wasn't slated for any CD. Just an idea put down in the process. Maybe Project 3? I'll just turn project 2 into a double album, yeah that's the ticket. Certain to send a copy out to you.

Thanks again for listening.

Excellent!

Emeric, I have just listened to the first MP3 of anybody's here at HomeRec and I think your tune is great. I am listening on cheapo headphones, but maybe your vocal could be a tiny bit louder. Guitars are very nice. Are these real drums? Sounds like it. I hear no sloppy bass at all. Very well excecuted. Bottom line....a good tune.
I am uploading a tune tonight that hopefully will be on MP3.com in a couple of days. When It's up I'll post here and let Y'all rake me over the coals :) bOb
P.S., I'm adding your tune to my playlist!

Great tune Emeric!

I love the changes at 1:22 and the other similar ones. Really nice sounds.

I wouldn't mind hearing some more layering of vocals, maybe a harmony line or two throughout more of the song.

Overall though, no complaints... this is really nice songwriting, which is what it's all about. Add in the fact that the recording is really strong, and well... you know. ;)

RockinRobert: Thanks for the comments. I thought the vocals were too loud, so that's good to know, thanks!. Yes, real drums. Let me know when your tune is up and I'll be sure to check it out.

KaBudokan: Yes, some type of doubling or harmonies or something during the verse may work. Listening to some of the vocals again, I'm out of pitch in areas.. my latest affliction. The rhythm electrics will be redone, and something done to the long ending - what I dont know. Appreciate the listen.

Great Tune :)

Emeric,

Not too much to say that hasn't been said. :D Great tune. I agree about the harmonies during the verses. Harmonies would go even greater things for this song. And I STRONGLY agree with dobro's suggestion about the Beatle type ending (with voice and some other instrument.)

As for the off pitch thing, I wouldn't have said anything if you hadn't already, but honestly it's not that bad. It's not bad at all really. Some doubling and/or harmonies would put that right out of the picture.

Truly top notch stuff! And you should feel honored, I never download stuff cause my connection is so crappy. Takes me 30 minutes at least to d/l a 3Mb song. You came so highly reccommended, however, that I decided to give it the time. Well worth it :)

--Tax :D

By the way . . . looking for a piano player?? ;)

Sounds EXCELLENT!

I downloaded this at 1kbps which was painstaking but from what i've read it was worth a listen, and it was, it sounds like a PROPER track you know.

That acoustic guitar sounded fab, i would like to be able to record like that!
The track isn't really my style so i've not much to comment in terms of arrangment except that is sounds excellent and doesn't drag on or anything as some (lots!) of mine tend to.

The contrast bewteen something like that and my latest band track i've just posted is humourous! The vocal waveform pictures in cubase where just blocks, lots of clipping distorting all over teh place, provides quick n easy distortion! have a listen if ya got the time, not sure whether style would appeal to you but hey!

Have you ever got your tracks out of the computer/internet and into shops and stuff, cause this one sounds damn good, i've heard far worse commercial realeases!

keep writing da toons

Magnificent!

my first reply got snagged by a disconnect... :( I'll save my myself some typing by simply referring to the subject of my reply.

Not my bag really. But it's an excellent recording, and a very well written song. You know your shi-ejt, Emeric. :)

TaxMan88: I'll give harmonies and/or doubling a shot during the verses. And Dobro's suggestion will be taken, just got to come up with something. Modem is a drag, I know cause I'm on one. Thanks for taking the time to d/l and comment. Always interested in on-line collaborations, currently working with a piano player though. If I happen across a tune that needs key's and your still interested, I'll be sure to email you.

raindrops: 1kbps, flying along!

"Have you ever got your tracks out of the computer/internet and into shops and stuff..." No, not available in stores, online only. :) I'll check your tune out this week.

James HE: Thanks, I'll also be sure to d/l your new one as well.

Meshuggah: Thanks for listening!

Great tune Emeric. Very classic rock feel as usual. Perfect mix.

I'm envious of where you are...it seems like you've got this recording thing down well enough that you can concentrate on songwriting.

Good work.
