So, I highly reccomend that anyone bounce over to tweakheadz and take the "final exam."

It's things like this that can put into perspective what you are strong in, and what you need to work on. Yes, it's all theory, and concept, but without those we can't be strong recordists.

Obviously those of you who run studios full time will laugh at most of the questions, but for anyone just getting into this, this test will show you how much thought goes into recording. All of the answers are given throughout tweaks tutorials (a great place to start I might add.)

So, go take the quiz, and see how you do.

I'll admit I didn't get a super great grade. I got 34/41 correct.

How something like:

7. Which Windows soundcard driver (API) has better latency overall?

a. Windows MME drivers
b. Direct Sound Drivers
c. ASIO and WDM drivers
d. ADAT and T-DIF drivers

falls into the category of "without those we can't be strong recordists" is to me vague to say the least.

That whole thing reminds me of Parade magazine.

So that question, maybe not so much, but a lot of them are important. I'm not saying that everything on there is of the utmost importance, just that, the concepts presented in MOST questions, are important to (at least) the beginner.

I got a C the first time round, but I resat the test and got an A+.

Interesting - but his answer to q12 is actually wrong.

The predecessor to a modern digital reverb was *not* a 3-head tape recorder.

Of his list the plate reverb is actually the closest - but a tape reverb like the WEM copycat or a spring reverb may be closer.

I got a "B", which quite please me as all my recording is done live with microphones and I have never used MIDI in my life.
