And as far as Radio airplay I get money everytime my song/songs play. It may be free to the consumer but its not free to the radio station.... I just wish everyone was doing what I am and struggling to get cuts and then hoping the damn thing makes a little money...

Oh Most of the songs downloaded are not from the 60's ;-)

Later ;-)

Well, maye not most music downloaded is from the 60s...definitely not, but mine are! :-D

I think a big reason some musicians and other creative people (artists, etc.) struggle financially is because they end up in college expecting a nice job or some record label to sign them when they graduate, or if they've got some really great song... when the truth is, because they've concentrated all their efforts into making music, they have no understanding of marketing. Talent doesn't always translate to success... I mean, look at Britney Spears... Is she talented? (I think we all know the answer) ...But whoever marketed her was a genius! KnowwhutImean?

Well...

To get back to helping 4RINGS.

Do what Gidge told you and/or download the demo of Soundforge http://www.sonicfoundry.com.

Open the MP3 of choice in SoundForge/goto FILE/then SAVE AS/ choose WAV.

Repeat the process for the rest of your MP3's.

Now...

To address the whole Napster situation.

I have produced a few 12" dance records overseas.

I know people have downloaded the songs for free, and there is nothing I can do about that fact. :(

Just like dj's use my record/s on their mix tapes and CD's (I don't get paid for every mixtape they create or somebody "dubs").

There is nothing I can do about that.

Except try to be happy about the "free promotion".

I don't use Napster, but I don't frown upon somebody who does use Napster.

I make good money :) , my attorney and I know how to make these record companies bid against each other for the nice big fat ADVANCE (even though it is recoupable). Then we INVEST that LOOT :D.

Plus, the people purchasing the records are dj's, so I have a captive consumer buying audience.

Anyway, I think I'm going off of the track.

I'm on the fence about Napster.

I've recorded movies and such without permission.

But, I also have product that I need to receive my just earnings from (royalties).

I create music that you can't just go into Musicland (insert your own city's big music chain store) and buy. Well, not just yet :D .

But, I would rather have people enjoying themselves to my music than them not hearing it at all.

But, on the other hand "I want my mutha f*^kin' MONEY!"

It's half in one hand and half in the other...

But I am very fortunate to be generating GOOD :) money.

Plus, the money I accumulate from dj'ing these gigs overseas is astronomically outrageous :D (that is outrageous in a good way :) ), so I'm really not complaining too much.

everybody have a good day and night...

Im a songwriter, and hate napster, and have never used it... It is ILLEGAL to steal music!!!! Yet, is it morally wrong???... this is the debate... I guess it is wrong, but are we all hypocrates to say that?... YES!! If you claim to have never stolen media, you are lying!!! Never been at a friends house, and watched a movie with them?... remember, at the beginning of a movie it says, it is illegal to broadcast it in public.... so to have a friend over and show him/her a movie, without paying royalties to the studio, is STEALING!, and highly illegal.... (Im guilty of it, in fact just watched a movie at my parents house sunday evening).....Even though napster is wrong, we should look to our own lifestyles, before we start barking.... there could be one loophole though... what if napster put a bunch of advertising banners and shit all over there site..... would that be legal, cause it would be sort of like watching tv, or listening to the radio and paying for it by enduring commercials... maybe that would be more ethical.. who knows..... It's a great debate, but the truth is it is illegal, so there really no debate...I think Nash was a little harsh on 4rings, I mean come on bud, you have never, ever, stolen media??????????(Be honest)

You're not serious, are you? That's gotta be the silliest remark I've heard!

Grab any Video out of your collection, and read that bright blue screen at the beginning..... You'll see how fucking silly I am... It is illegal to broadcast copyrighted movies in public!.. whether it be your home, or on the front lawn of the goddam whitehouse... it is a minor technicallity and an unenforced law... but it is right there is fucking white writing.. (with nice blue background for contrast).....And yes, i was being fucking serious!

Your one of those people who thinks that just because she is a new "fad" in pop music, she is not talented... My friend, try downloading "Don't let me be the last to know" off of napster, and give it a true unopinionated listen, you will hear that she can sing beautifully.... (I don't really like that music, but you can't say she's not talented).....

Edited due to major spelling errors :)

Chill!

I think there's a big difference between having a friend over to see it, and showing it to the general public...but it would be interesting to see what the MPAA or the patent & copyright office would have to say.

As for Britney Spears, you're completely off the bat...
The Backstreet Boys are/were a fad, but they actually ARE talented. Whether it's a fad or not is irrelevant. Britney Spears sucks regardless of whether she is a fad or not. She might be able to crank out a tune (almost), but I wouldn't even say she's as good as average for a singer.

Prism...........

I was using the movie thing, and watching at friends houses as an example of copyright laws... I didn't mean the police are gonna come over and get you if you do it... it was just an example... as i said, It is very unenforced....

Sorry 'bout all the swearing, but I read your initial post to me about 5 minutes, after I found out UPS has lost a guitar that was being shipped to me....I was already a bit pissed off, and your remark, was badly timed, I guess...

and about Britney... opinion is opinion....
And ours totally differ, which is ok:)...Joe

Ouch! I hate it when that happens... I once bought a scanner from a guy on eBay and he sent me a different model than he advertised. I bought the one I wanted, though.. for 10 bucks less than the one I didn't want!

Isaiah

Is this over yet?

If not, lets move it to the cave! Hugs to everyone! :)

Mp3's sound like crap anyway. That alone is enough to make me stay clear of Napster. I'm not going to join the bitch session, but I do think it's wrong. I also find it somewhat amusing that computer geeks think it's OK to steal music, but when someone steals their software that's a whole different story...or is it? In general I'd say that people who think Napster is OK are not trying to make a living in this business. Oh, just for clarification, I don't mean to say that stealing software is OK either.
