Good evening all.

Beginner here so apologies for the newbie questions.

First of all, I’m looking to interface Hydrogen Drum Machine to a Tascam 2488 either directly or via an ION IDM02. The ideal would be to program a loop of Bass / Snare / Hi Hat to be recorded to the 2488. If this could be done via the IDM02 that would be ideal but direct from Hydrogen would be acceptable. Once I have the basic track, I would like to manually add some fills direct from the pads on the IDM02.

So part one (Direct connection): I am thinking of pointing Hydrogen from the laptop to an external USB sound card and then connecting a lead from speaker socket to input. Does this sound feasible?

Part two (IDM02): Can I use a USB to Midi cable to connect to the drum machine and connect the output from the IDM02 to the input. Laptop > IDM02 > Tascam. Again, is this feasible?

Part three (Fills): Can I use a USB to Midi cable to connect to the drum machine and record the fills on a new track? IDM02 > Tascam.

Sorry for the long winded post but I’m not sure of the best way to go. I still have stuff to order so I’m trying to get a plan together before I start.

Regards

Hello Mr B and welcome. I have downloaded Hydrogen but get a stern warning not to run it! I shall therefore wait until someone far PC smarter than I tells me if it is safe.

One simple way to play and record it might be Audacity? This can be set to record the internal sound card. a function Ms removed from Win 10.
Alternatively many interfaces now have a 'loop thru' function. The excellent MOTU M2/M4 are such. The free Cakewalk DAW might be good? Otherwise you can never go wrong with Reaper!

Dave.
