i just a got a hafler p3000 on ebay.

I plugged it into my cheap prosumer gear and got some nasty hum.

after playing with the signal chain one morning it became clear that balanced connections with decent XLR cables fixed my hum.

But i still have 1 question (just for learning purposes)...

when using unbalanced connection and typical guitar patch cord, the left channel had noticably worse hum than the right. I used all sorts of combinations of cables, speakers, and speaker wire, but the hum problem with the left channel remained.

the moral of the story is use balaced runs, shut up and make some music, but humor me...is there an electcial reason or defect in my amp that causes the left channel to hum more with unbalanced signals?

Not sure why only the left channel would hum. But dont use any more guitar cables as patch or speaker cables ;)

Patient: Doctor,it hurts when I do this...
Doctor: Don't do that...

yeah, i just went and got some real cable and things are working fine. the bummer is that i'm starting to hear how noisy the rest on my gear is...
