Milk It
Saw these at the local music store for 50 bucks. Worth it?

I don't need really expensive ones, as I don't have all the expensive gear. But I figured if these can give me a better sound in my ears while I'm messing with the music, then might as well. Anyone used them? If they're total shit please inform me :)

Cheers!

I'm not familiar with those headphones but I can say this much. For anyone who's at home on a budget, like me, headphones are an area you can hold off on. If you have something that works, save the money for other parts of your signal chain.

Unless of course you're trying to mix with them, then that's a different story altogether. If so you may want to see how long it would take you to get a decent cheap pair of monitors and hold off until then.

What would you recommend for starter monitors?

PS: Yes I am planning to mix with them! :)

Like anything it really depends on your budget. But more importantly where you are in your signal chain. If you list your current setup it help to know where you are. Mics, interface, et cetera.

As an example I've been using Rokit P5's for a couple years now and I'm happy with them. They aren't the best, and there may better more options in their price range, but of all the things I've upgraded in the last few months the monitors haven't even come close to making the list of things to change.

i bought a pair of behri phones a couple of years ago because they were on sale for $20, got home, listened to about 5 seconds of a sound clip through them and immediately returned them for refund. ipod earbuds sound about a million times better, and i'm not even an anti-behringer guy. i just know for a fact that their phones are terrible. i wouldn't touch their monitors either.

the m-audio bx5a are comparable to the rokit rp-5 and i think cost about the same too. both sets are ok--probably the best economy monitors.

but if your room isn't treated, you'd be better off spending $100-200 on good phones and mixing through those than buying cheap phones for $50 and cheap monitors for $300.

a pair of world-class monitors will tell the truth, but it'll never reach your ears if the room is lying.

good luck! :)
