does anyone know how to make it so all images show up as little red x's? Is there some sort of setting I can click on to make it so no images show up when I go to www. whatever website .com?

There should be a disable images option in Internet Explorer options. I use FireFox though and I'm not sure how to do it with that. Might be in the settings if you type in the URL box: about:config

Yeah, there is stuff in the list on the Advanced Tab about disabling media content (not sure how specific it gets, never really fussed with it myself)...

Just out of curiosity, why do you need to do this?

Yep. Get on Linux and use a text-based browser. :D

:P

I still want to know why it matters... perhaps he is developing his website to work with portable devices?

Perhaps he wants to read pornographic stories at work but doesn't want to get caught downloading the pics that are embedded in the page  :D

LOL... You must have done this a time or two? :D

Okay I was right - go (In Internet Explorer anyway), to Tools -> Internet Options, select the "Advanced" tab, and under Multimedia-Content, you can uncheck whatever you don't want to appear on the page.

haha noooo... I've just trouble-shoot'd many a desktop and laptop when I worked at a computer support center back in college a few years ago, so I had to poke around IE a LOT... learned to do things one should really never need to learn about something like Internet Explorer.

Ahhh, I'm a PC Tech as well. But, if there's an issue with IE, I tell them it's because they aren't using FireFox.. :D

Or, if Windows is being normal, I suggest Linux. ;)

Nah, I usually fix the problem and take their money, either way, it's a neat process. :)

Meh... I lost the urge to tell people what software to use a while ago... I use IE myself when I'm on my PC (which isnt often), so I can't really talk :) It works fine if you don't get your computer hosed by spyware and viruses ad the like.

For my Mac, Safari works juuuust fine.

When I started working as a software engineer, I lost all motivation to use the computer at home, so I switched to outboard gear and never looked back.. its nice having a console to mix on , for the sheer physical use... feels more like recording to me for some reason - sonically its no better or worse, really

All very true. I just can't afford a Mac right now, so I just built my own computer..well I've built numerous ones for myself, but this one is the last one for a while, haha.

I'm usually fulltime on Linux, the only time I use Windows, is to do production. But I don't have a harddrive or computer dedicated to it, I just run windows in vmware and call it a day. Works for me, no internet is enabled on it, so no spyware, I just have it on there for production purposes. Works fine for me. I make a beat, shut it down, and continue on Linux.

Right now I'm in the process of installing Source Mage GNU/Linux, because I'm tired of Gentoo for a little while..

Anywho.. off I go.. nice chattin with you, ;)

you can block images from a site in firefox.

just right click on an image and block it. and in firefox in tools>options>content>load images>exceptions...it'll pop up something that you can just enter the url's.

problem with this is many sites use images as buttons to navigate. like i have to click a reply image to post this...etc.

Actually, you can just use Lynx. It's a free text-based browser. Completely different than you'd expect though. Runs in a DOS window. I tried it out on my site. I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to actually use it to surf the net.

Maybe like, back in the 1920's...
