Good day mates!
I have been a lurker on and off for a year or so now...

I've recently purchased a used M-Audio 1010 (no LT) and so far I am loving it.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and turned up nothing that could answer my particular query.

Can I use the s/pdif INPUT of my Delta for hooking up microphones to record simultaneously with the other 8 inputs?
If so, how do I go about achieving that?

Many thanks!
More power to everyone here...

S/PDIF is digital, so you can get a pair of channels going in from the digital output of some other device (i.e. mic preamp A/D with S/PDIF output).

Protip: Read the manual

You just need a preamp with s/pdif outs.

Solutions: Art DPS II, dbx386, Aphex 207D, etc depending on your budget.

Yo pmack. Welcome to the board! Here's an option that I used for quite a while:

TC Electronic M350 | 8thstreet.com | Call 1-800-878-8882 | Free Shipping on most orders!

This is a $200 fX box that is also a fairly good A-D converter. You get usable reverb, a de-esser, rudimentary compression. delay, pingpong, slapback, and- you can jack 2 channels of 1/4" line input into it, push the bypass button (or not), and it comes out digital by S/PDIF, with makeup gain. This allows you to convert 2 channels of whatever you got to S/PDIF, if you have a line level signal. There are, unfortunately, no mic inputs, but if you have a mixer or preamp lying around, or an amp with a line out, or whatever, the M350 is one of the cheapest AD converters you can find. And- it's a fairly good multi-fx box. For $200, what's not to love?-Richie

PS- You can do the same thing with the equivalent Lexicon unit, although I've never used it myself.
