You guys are retarded. Get a grip. What do you all do everyday ? Frame houses ? clean toilets ? How the fuck did you get on the net ?

Absolutely unacceptable. A homerecording forum and not a fucking engineer/techie type amongst ya. You will all drown when your toilets overflow with your moronic stupid, ginormous, runny shit.

I will bask in the triumphant splendor of my state of the art recording super compound structure that I skillfully constructed using a mail order kit from ACME.

fucking record it on a tape if you are that freakin challenged. Watch out though you could get the tape wrapped around you and suffocate you reprehensible fuckwad.

uhhhhh what?

While firby was a bit cruel, lets see if we can help Nick get his Share drives setup on his PCs.

Nick, make sure each PC on your LAN has the same workgroup name (I use HOME or MSHOME) Right-click on My Computer on the desktop and select Properties. Then go the Network ID Tab (I'm on Win2K, but it should be the same for XP) to set the workgroup. Assuming your firewall isn't blocking anything, you should be able to go into My Network and browse to the other PC. If you setup a share as Post #11 explained, this folder will show up when you click on the other PC.

PM me if you are still having problems and we can get it straightened out. Having access to all the PCs in our house has been a lifesaver for me, so I want to be able to help you out! Oh, and Printer sharing is nice too! Hit print from the laptop downstairs and out spits the paper upstairs. It's like freakin' magic!

the 2 computers are actually connected through a router with ethernet

does that connection allow the sending of files?

Are you sure it's a router? Is it an ISDN or Cable router used for internet access? Do both have access to the internet and is it working? Draw a picture of how the cables are hooked up. We'll start there.

the computer with the files does not have a dvd burner

and i do not own a external HD

i might be able to get a hold of a friends ipod

can you put any kind of file on those things?
Yeah, when you plug the ipod in, it just shows up as another hard drive in your computer with its own drive letter (like F: or something). Then you can just drag files over on to it, but make sure that you do not change any of the files that are already on it. You might want to create a new folder on the ipod that you copy stuff into just to make sure it is kept separate from what is already there.

if both computer are connected into a router.

On your source computer, click start, all program, accessories, communications, then network setup wizard. There's a popup, click NEXT, click NEXT again, just choose yes then click NEXT again, make sure computer name and desription if filled out then click NEXT, make sure workgroup is filled out click NEXT, make sure turn on file and ptriner sharing then click NEXT, click NEXT again, on the last part , just choose "just finish my wizard", click NEXT and FINISH.

Do the whole thing in your target computer, exactly the same as the above. Then restart both computer.

On your source computer, make a new folder on your desktop, put the BIG FILE in the folder. Right click the folder, click properties and go to sharing tab. Check "share this folder in the network" and give it a share name. then click apply.

On your target computer, open the "MY Network place", wait for few seconds. You will be able to see the folder with your BIG THING in there. just copy and paste it to your target computer.

I transfer large files (500 MB or so) all the time from my audio box to my laptop using a 1 gig USB memory stick. Quick, no hassle.

Ahem!! firewall does not affect your Home Network. Regardless of your firewall, it will still do the networking if you did properly on my previous post.

Hey NickY are your both computer, XP? if so, and if you did my instruction perfectly, it would not be problem. If for some reason its still not working and you did my instruction, it would be a physical problem. Perhaps, the router, modem is not important (only for internet), check your wirings if they are connected properly. Make sure you got your LAN cards working properly and its device driver installed , make sure you dont use crossover cables if both computer are connected to the router, use only regular CAT5 or CAT6 cable. If you do this physical troubleshooting, you would not need to do my previous instructions, it will just work instantly.

Remember: You have to do my instruction on both computer

after this if everything works, its not enough to give 5 green chiclets. I have to use dual monitor so that all my chiclets will fit.

1. A+ certification means nothing.
2. What porno's are you moving?

I've set up networks on numerous computers with the network setup wizard without a hitch right up until service pack 2 for xp came out. Since then nothing but grief and each problem was something different. I don't know if your computer has sp2 on it but if it does its probably related to that. I don't know if you could microsoft tech support to help you out with that or not. Messenger does work good but I don't know if there is a transfer size limit on it.
Good Luck

firewall does not affect your Home Network

Not true. It will depend on which firewall he is running on each machine and how they are configured. If its giving him a warning, then obviously its blocking the request for whatever reason (although the xp firewall should let it go)

MSCE certified here

the thing no one described was the 3rd screen when they ask me:

1 this computer connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my network connect to the intenet through this computer.

2. This computer connects to the internet through a residental gateway or through another computer on my network

3. Other

and yes both computers are XP

i think the source computer has a Mac afee firewall on it or something
