I have removable IDE drives on all my computers. I put the file on one of the removable drives, then shut down and pull it out and walk it over the another computer. Of couse you have to have drive bay. I use cheap ones from computer geeks here

If you have integrated or PCI LAN on both PC's run a crossover cable between the two and set up a simple network, WinXP does this almost automatically.

thanks guys .. im trying yousendit.com right now

but the computer im trying to send from is really slow so i dont think its working

oh wow !

the file i want to send is actually 3.5G

i didnt think it was that big

darn

the 2 computers are actually connected through a router with ethernet

does that connection allow the sending of files?

just use a crossover cable between the ethernet connections on both computers and you should be able to transfer the file that way pretty easily. i dont think the computers can talk to each toher thru the router, but maybe theres a way to configure it that way? i dunno..

jeez how long does yousendit.com usually take

i sent a 328 Mb file and its taking forever

yes. fist make a share folder(creat folder right click/ properties/share tab. click share this folder apply) and put the file there right click my computer/ properties/ network idetification. right down computer name of the computer you are tranfering from. then on the pc you are transfering to right click network places and search for pc name. type in the pc name. you will see the pc name come up click it and you will be promped to type user name and password then you will see the folder that you shared. however xp firewall may make hard for you. you can use the setup home network wizard. i think its in the control panel. but you still have to make share folders and know the pc name

if tried that wizard in control panel and ive never been able to get it to work

ive tried many times

I agree, burn it to DVD. The other option is to copy the files to an external hard drive connected to the 1st computer, connect that drive to the other computer, and then copy the files to the 2nd computer's internal drive.

All this business about ftp, yousendit, etc. is just a waste of time for files that large. You need to transfer the files by copying them to a disk of some sort.

Ethernet should work too though, and you could do the transfer overnight when you normally wouldn't be at the computer anyway. But if you are having troubles with ethernet, just copy the files to DVD or external hard drive and be done with it.

That or use an iPod or other kind of hard drive based mp3 player, if you have one accessible.

the computer with the files does not have a dvd burner

and i do not own a external HD

i might be able to get a hold of a friends ipod

can you put any kind of file on those things?

ipod idea is excellent. Yes, you plug it in and it will show up as external drive
