How to split up a professional CD?

Damn Chibi Nappa, I didn't think you could really "delete" vocals (split down the middle)...cool.

In college, a buddy of mine had one of those all in one stereo systems that had a Karaoke option on it. When you played any CD on it with that option on, it did a fairly good job of severely reducing the vocal to practically nonexistent. It didn't always work, but 9x out of 10 it did. You'd notice a little sound reduction over all, but I've always wondered how the little cheap system was able to do something like that...some kind of EQ? or is that the reverse phase thing you're talking about?

I actually believe there are ways to do what is being requested. I know most of you would get it really, but there are processors out there that are capable of removing nothing but vocals. It has to do with vocal specific patterns rather than fequencies. Anyone know anything about RADAR?
It not something CEP2 or PT can do....and not in the hand of your typical AE type either...its costs alot too.

(back to serious mode) Most times it will end up like that karaoke machine you described (it probably might have been doing the same thing) and leave really faint "ghost vocals" behind due to stereo reverb or some other stereo effect on the vocals. But yeah, you can get a good deal of the vocals out by flipping a channel and adding it back in. If you don't want your bass guitar to go away, you can heavily eq the bass range of one of the two sides (reduce) before adding them back together. That way, the bass information won't be the same on both sides, and won't be canceled out once it is flipped and added back together. It takes some trial and error...

Hey, I'm just here to help the little man who can't afford all the big expensive gear that "The Bear" has. When I finally found out the secret to removing parts of songs by means of the "magnetic method of drawing parts out" I took a pledge to help all the little people. I am fufilling my promise to my musical sensei who had imparted me with all of his DAW wisdom before his passing.

Long live the sensei and the poor musician....

He just didn't do it right. Try the small circles instead of the wiggles with the magnet. If that doesn't do it .....I don't know if I should say it...it's too secret. Ohhh...allright...moving the magnet in triangles really does the trick but you have to be careful or you remove too many instruments...better to use the wiggle or the small circles.

I CAN'T F*$KIN BELIEVE IT.......

...now you told him about the triangle!!!!!!!!

C'mon man, have you no shame?!?!?

T-Rat - it's worse than that I'm afraid....

We're well beyond changing the handshake and getting new rings....

...K, I'm afraid we'll have to kill you now.

We don't want to, but we all took the same oath - you *knew* what would happen if you revealed the truth.... you sealed your own fate.

Too bad too... I have enjoyed your posts here....

There are three ways to split a professional CD:

1 Buy it amongst two or three of you. Take turns playing it on your personal stereos at home.

2 Turn your back on it and walk away.

3 With an axe, or similar sharp object. Blunt objects work, but aren't recommended for surgical cuts.

Oh for crying out loud....I didn't tell him about the "inverted trapazoid tripletwist" failsafe method of putting the tracks back on the HD if he drew too many instruments off with the magnet....doh! Hold on...I'll apologize but someones at the door.

AHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGGHG!

That's right.... being forced to endure listening to The Eagles "The Long Run" played endlessly on an 8-track cassette player (without Dolby and with one of those hideous fade-ins/outs on the title track as the program switches tracks!!!.....)

A crueler fate could not be imagined.....

Yo, someone could've told me this kid was looking for metallica's orchestra, I still have my own copies of all the work we did, infact the band just came down to the studio last night to thank me again.

Do you want he tracks with or without the reverb?
