Damn Chibi Nappa, I didn't think you could really "delete" vocals (split down the middle)...cool.
In college, a buddy of mine had one of those all in one stereo systems that had a Karaoke option on it. When you played any CD on it with that option on, it did a fairly good job of severely reducing the vocal to practically nonexistent. It didn't always work, but 9x out of 10 it did. You'd notice a little sound reduction over all, but I've always wondered how the little cheap system was able to do something like that...some kind of EQ? or is that the reverse phase thing you're talking about?
