How to Prevent Guitar Track from getting Exhausting/Boring

Probably our thresholds and choice of words are different. I find a singled-out electric guitar sounds easily gets fatiguing if I don't love the sound of the guitar (for me, that is usually a clean or slightly overdriven Tele). If you don't understand what I'm talking about, that's okay.

OK, play a clean or slightly overdriven Tele ALL the time then, I presume that's what you're doing, since you love this sound most of all. That's no problem.

But then, you were the one that brought up that it sounded boring and fatiguing. Thing is, no one has heard this sound you're complaining of, so no one really knows how to advise you.

Post a clip.

Yeh, you covered it all in your 1st post Greg, make it more interesting.

I didn't see the Tele part. I can totally see how basic strumming on a clean or slightly overdriven Tele can be annoying as fuck and boring as hell. Teles are bright and screechy and if that's all you can do with it, then yeah, ear shredding monotony. Yuck. Write better guitar parts, play it better, AND use a better guitar tone.

Someone really should make the simple suggestion that this guy write better guitar parts and/or play them better.

He needs to write better guitar parts and/or play them better ;)

It's hardly surprising that three minutes odd of playing the same strummy chords with no variety, tonal variation or dynamic changes is going to get pretty tiring. You need something to address all three of those things.

No reason why a simple part can't work with points of emphasis, even if it's something as simple asalternating between the low couple of strings and a full strum. Those old blues players would record entire songs on field equipment comprising of about three notes. It was how they played it.

I think he's working out a new arrangement....that's why he hasn't been back to post....so sit tight.

Here's some more electric niceness. Like I said earlier, it's not instrument.

It's the only right answer. Write and play better. I'd write it in crayon for you, but this is just words on a screen. You seem to be looking for some magic formula and/or someone to hold your hand. Just write and play better. That's all you have to do. I'm sorry if I'm being too blunt for your liking. The world isn't all unicorns and candy canes. Just write and play better.

Unicorns and candy canes, oh man, now I get it. It must feel great to feel superior to a stranger on an internet forum. How lucky for you.

Nevermind people, I got a sense of this forum. I regret joining it. Have fun.

I asked to be removed from the forum but in case not, I'll quote Greg_L here (reputation line for me) so that I get banned: "lol fuck you." So classy.

You got a ton of good advice p.o, and a load of people took the time to try and help you out. Why only focus on the posts of one person's whose you don't like and ignore everyone else?

Upto you whether you stick around of course - you might think it blunt, but Greg got to the nub of your issue. Without a clip it was hard to say too much more and with you saying the arrangement was simultaneously fine and fatiguing, I can see why there was some frustration.

Haven't you read any of my replies. I personally addressed and thanked everyone who gave useful advice. That you choose to still interpret my behavior in this way is puzzling but really, it doesn't matter anymore.

Well, if you recognise that you got useful advice, but are still asking for your account to be deleted on the basis of one poster whose tone you don't like, then I'd say that you are being overly sensitive.

Anyway, I have no interest in or intention of getting into an online row. My last post wasn't meant to be provocative - I was essentially trying to say if you want specific advice, put up clips (no matter how rough) and people can hear what the issues are. if you don't, the feedback will always be a bit general.

Sure, I understand the shortcomings of my original question. And I have no clips to offer now, otherwise I would. You are right about that. But the ratio of unnecessary (at best) talk to useful advice was low. I'm sure it wasn't my best day yesterday but I've never experienced anything like this in my many years of forum participation and I've asked some really basic or misinformed questions at times, I'm sure. I mean, nobody ever said fuck you or repeated the same thing (which I'm not contesting anyway) over and over and over again. I'll call it bad luck, but I really don't want to stay in this forum after this. It was a pretty bad experience. I'm happy in my other forums. I'll go back there. Thank you for bothering to write in a civilized manner anyway.

It's a shame you feel like that prof as this is a great, very knowledgable and helpful community. As blunt to the point as Greg is, he is one of the most helpful people around here. Looks like you two rubbed each other up the wrong way. (Oo'er)

Good luck with finding 'your'sound :thumbs up:

You said "boring". Did you not? That means your guitar parts are uninteresting. More interesting guitar lines will not be exhausting or boring. It's pretty simple really.

I agree 110%. Besides the post title gets into a very vague field, guitar parts on a track is about just get interesting. There are numberless songs with just two parts or 3 that really catch the listener. ACDC is a great example (to name a few). They repeat themselves a lot. But it´s damn catchy. If you count how many songs they use that simple progression of G - A - D... or whatever... it´s crazy. The production and song structure are also the key.

Now if you meant the tones, eq and so on, there are certain frequencies that engineers say that cause fatigue in the ears. But that´s more specific and another issue. :thumbs up:

Yes, EQ and everything else is involved in this as stated very clearly in my original post. But whatever.

Thanks Mr. Clean, I'm sure that "fuck you" is not representative of Greg_L. I'm sure I deserved it, too. Right? My bad, end of story. Cheers!
