This may be a dumb question but I just switched from a PC and pro tools to a Mac and Pro Tools LE 7.4 Mbox 2 pro.

I use to be able to have a recording and play that recording while playing a new guitar part over that recording without recording the new part. But the only way I can get this to happen now is to press record and considering I may play over this recording about 50 or so times this is not good cause I'm on a laptop without a ton of storage. I'm in the middle of trying to do this right now so a short quick reply would help a ton! I used the search function but couldn't find what I need to know.

Thank you,
-Chase

Record arm the track and then hit option K. This will make it so you can hear the track while playing back without having to hit record on the transport.
on another note If you do record and in the middle realize the take is not good, before hitting stop, hit apple period and this will eliminate the take from hard drive.

Awesome, thanks! I spent a few hours reading trying to figure it out with no luck. Who knew thats what "auto input monitoring" meant....hahaha

Rock on,
-Chase

You can also just use the input monitor rather than the record enable. That should alow you to hear what is currently on the track as well as what the mic is picking up.
