How to get that sound?

Myself not being a real drummer, though i record a drummer and do midi drum sequencing, i have a question for who ever strolls by. The particular sound that my question stems from is the drum tracks on the Bush song the chemicals between us. They have this electronic sound to them but it is much more, in that the beat just seems to roll. I've noticed this type of drum sound on some of U2's newer stuff. Does this sound and feel just come about because it is a cool beat or because it is electric drums or is it in the way the high hat, kicks, and snare interact. Any insight would be appreciated.

Bush's drummer uses the DDrum sound module and triggers live. The sounds on the record may have been sampled out of god knows where, and he can just load them onto his DDrum brain to play them. I wouldn't think that they could be the stock DDrum sounds. I have the Roland TD-8 brain and I haven't come accross a similar sound yet. I'll listen to that Bush song more carefully next time and I'll try to let you know.

Well, I guess that didn't help much. Imitating particular drum sounds with midi is a lot harder than it sounds..

I was listening to that song on the way home from work tonite. Are you talking about the "ghost" notes that, I think fall on the kick beats? It really gives the drum pattern a slow hip hop feel and helps it roll along. I thought about sequencing the "ghost" notes and playing my snare on the 2 and 4.

I'm really a rock drummer but I've been listening to a lot of TLC lately, damn that dude can produce. The snare really dominates their tracks. It's like ghost notes but stronger, but not as strong the main snare, if you get what I mean.

I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you.
