how to connect equalizer to tape recorder?

well, i got this old piece from my dad:



seems like it does have tape ins/tape out in the back.

i wanna connect it to my AKAI MG614 tape recorder, and to use it while recording. so i guess it goes somewhere here:



im not sure if its even possible?

What do you want to use it on, an individual track or the whole mix or something else?

For eq-ing the whole mix you would patch from the Master Out to the eq and from the eq to the 2-track deck.

For eq-ing individual tracks you might put it on the inserts (called ACC SEND/RCV) using TRS to dual RCA cables.

If peeps are going to mess with this mankey old kit surely they should learn some basic electricals?

Is there a book still in print they can buy? There are quite a few about valves although most of the ones about valve guitar amps are contentious bollocks.

Well, one cable with two signals on it, a send and a receive. One end of the cable has a TRS, like a headphone plug, and the other end has two RCA plugs. On the eq you don't have to use the "tape" connections since you're not using it with a home system, just connect to the input and output of one channel.

hi again. so i tried what u suggested and it seems that theres a problem somewhere. the signal seems to pass to the eq and it shows it on the graphics. but it mutes the recording and also the monitor. i cant get the signal back to the tape recorder.

the eq is fine and i checked it with my amplofier. cables are good.

any idea?

Inserts ("ACC SEND/RCV" on your mixer) can be tip=send or ring=send. Be sure you have the tip and ring connected to the correct RCAs on the eq. That is, it may be that tip goes to the input of the eq or the output of the eq. The mixer's manual would tell you whether it's tip=send or ring=send.

So, mixer insert send to eq left channel line input, left channel line output to mixer insert return. Set EQUALIZER to ON, EQ REC to OFF, MONITOR to SOURCE.
