Why do you want to do this?

There is nothing to be gained by it.

Use XLR to XLR from mike to preamp. Use TRS to TRS from preamp to interface. That's the best way of managing a line-level signal, and of avoiding any potential issues with the interface's phantom power if you run a second mike straight into the interface.

Oh, and by the way, demanding answers is not likely to win you any friends.

i see... thats the most optimal way to go.. thanks u guys! u r no1!! ;)

p.s. i never demanded any answers, and thanks again!

oh yes.. its when u plug mics straight into tascam.. but what if i wanna use all xlr cables between tube preamp and tascam? how to set that -14dbu trim to min on my tascam?? is it all to the left again??

If you use xlr, you are doing it wrong and you will be feeding a line level signal into a mic level input. The TRS is for line level signals (the output of an external preamp) and the XLR is for mic level signals (plugging the mic directly into the tascam)

By choosing the wrong cable, you are choosing the wrong input.

If the output of your tube preamp is XLR, simply get an XLR to TRS cable. An XLR connection is not higher quality than TRS. They are the same quality.

pls answer my question on post #15. thanks
If you plug a line level signal i to the XLR input, you can't turn the gain knob low enough to get the gain structure right. That is why you should use the TRS input.
