I just purchased a Korg workstation a few days ago and I have my desktop speaker the end of 2.5 jack connected to a 1/4 jack that go into the back of the korg's audio output. With this I have great sounds coming out of my desktop speaker. The sounds are really full and clear. It's like I'm playing at Guitar Center and these sounds are coming out of the keyboard amp. Very punchy. I know from experience I used to own an Mbox 2 interface and my Roland Fantom G stereo output connected to the Mbox 2 line input and my recording was sh*tty. It can't even compare to keyboard amps. Heck, I would rather use a keyboard amp and hear the awesome sound coming out of it. So why is it like this?

Is there anyway I can achieve the same result if I were to connect my keyboard output into an audio interface? I notice that I lost the quality (it's not full and punchy anymore) if the stereo out from back of the keyboard into the interface line input.

I also own a pair of Yahama's HS80 monitor. The way the sounds of my keyboard coming out of this monitor is so flat. Not even punchy. ughhh.. I hate it! Again, i want to have the punchiness just like if it were to come out of the keyboard amp. Can somebody offer some ideas. Thanks a lot!

Chances are your 'desktop speaker' (whatever brand/size it is) is coloring the sound in a way that makes you think it sounds great. You should be able to hear the same out of any set of speakers or devices by EQuing the same way (low pass and high pass filters reducing the frequency range, boosted mids, woudl be my guesses).

You don't really want colored sound recorded. Record clean balanced sound, then adjust as needed. Make sure you are plugged into LINE IN inputs on your interface, too.

Because amps and speakers do things to sounds which you're decoding as punchy, or whatever...

Studio monitors aren't meant to sound "punchy"... they're meant to sound accurate.

Yeah, probably its the flatness if the yamahas is what you dont like.
Try to understand what the yamahas dont have and enhance the sound using eq/compression
