Hi,
Here are photos of how I built my traps. Used Roxul Plus Mineral Board (48"x32"x4"), Pine Boards (5"), Cotton Fabric, Wire Staples, Thin Wire, staples.
Cost of Fabric (for one unit): $3
Cost of Roxul : 6pcs/$50
Hardware: $4
Lumber: Free {My ambitious father harvested some woodland and milled the lumber. He donated the wood to me. Yesterday I went home for a visit and we put the frames together - had to rip and plane the boards - a fun day with Dad} -

Here are the photos, pretty self explanatory.

I did put fabric on both sides. I will have to move these in and out of the space so that's why wire on both sides (to make them more solid) and the double side fabric. Used hospital corners on the fabric to give it a clean look. The first one took me about 2 hours to put together. 5 more to go.

Thanks,
Scott.

looks good. Be sure to tell us how you hang them up.

Does the Roxul stuff come in pieces? Did you get the Roxul from Home depot?
The ones i saw at Home depot doesn't seem like they have it in pieces since they are all rolled up in a big plastic packaging...

Nice work Scott,
I like the neatness of your hospital corners! :)

Thanks, Getting the rest done. I bought a Mastercraft Sure Shot staple gun - one word of advise - DON'T. They suck.

I used wire staples to hold the wire with. They are like a U and you nail them in. I wouldn't do it that way again. It takes too long to run the wire through. Hooks would be easier (cup hooks) and then simply 'lace' it like hockey skates. Also being nailed in with pressure fro the wire they back off a bit.

As far as installation goes I plan on using these like gobos and move them around. They are 5 inches wide and will stack quite well in the corners. I can use then to make a vocal iso booth or enclose a guitar cab. I'm going to experiment with them.

Bass Traps? Look more like Mid-Hi Freq absorbers.

Nice Job :D

I should be able to do this myself...I think. What size screws did you use in the framework?..the length too please. Thanks for the step by step and the pictures Scott.

True :)

I used #2 Robertson Screws 1 1/4". The PCF on this is 2. I think they will work better for Mid-High Absorbtion too. I am going to use them to make a RFZ when I mix and as gobos when I track. I will build more for bass traps using material at least 3pcf (once I find some)

you'll get better bass absobtion with a bigger gap behing the RW to the back of the frame like say, 4" RW and a 4" air gap on an 8" frame, air gap to the wall side

do you know why it came out good????

because there is a PENCIL in the first picture!

man, people mess stuff up all the time because they don't use PENCILS and MEASURE!

nice!

Thanks very much, I'm making a plan for my bass traps too. I have a few questions:

"3pcf"
Is this a unit for how much sound it absorbs?

I though the side of a bass trap should be open like this:
o.php

Is it ok to mount wire which holds Roxul with a small screw?

Also why didn't you mount fabric with a small screw or nail on the pine board?
