How good are you with computers?

Ive been building and playing with computers since the punch card era.

Hey man.....which system did you work with? (IBM, TX, DEC PDP series, Digital...?)
(I'm a bit of a history buff!)

I'm very very very good... Lot's of experience with comps, and I learn fast... I have web dev skills, programming, audio/video producing, and what is most important? I have talent! + inspiration! and at the end, I'm not nerd...

i went to a vocational high school for four years focusing on computer networking and technology and through that got a job with Geek Squad. I can tell you that all the people i work with have no certification and just do what they do because they love to do it. most of them go to school for it so it helps. But i've learned a lot from school and about 1000x more from co workers. in the end it all comes down to how you learn it. hands on or bookin' it

I have to disagree with alot of what is being said here. I myself have started into a technical college for IT. I just actually switched from graphic design because I have been doing that already for years. The difference is computers are a bit more sensitve. I understand reading up on computers and stuff but I feel that making the effort to get some kind of educational training shows commitment to your craft. Not everyone will hire the old school hackers. Most schools WILL help you find a job after and sometimes during your enrollment. I know a bit about computers but not enough to go to a interview today and get a IT job. And I sure as hell am not going to dive into my nice home computer to "train" myself on doing things. You will end up spending just about as much on your schooling.

Go to school, get a degree or certified and show your commitied to your craft.
