How does the U87 and NTK compare?

Hello all,

I currently use a Rode NTK for my vocal mike and I like the results, but I am looking to upgrade to a better mic and I was just wondering if the U87 or something else would make a magnitude of difference?

I don’t know what the sound characteristics of the U87 are so it may not be the mic for me. I use a UA 6176 for me channel strip.

If I had to say something negative of how the NTK sounds on my voice it would be that it accentuates my T’s and S’s but I control that with EQ.

So with that being said what mic’s do you think I should look at?

Thank you all.

Pier

NTK is supposed to be a good mic so I would suggest that the U87 might not be for you (see my current thread on it). There are some Soundelux, Microtech Gefell and even BLUE and Brauner mics that you should pay some attention to for definite though. :)

Sounds like you like your mic! I too upgraded from an NTK. I chose a Brauner Phantom C and I love the results. I still use the NTK on some other voices and it does well when I record acoustic guitar for use in a heavy mix.
Good counsel can be had at Soundpure from Dan Richards http://www.soundpure.com/
