How does External EQ work?

On every Mixing Console, there are built-in equalizer, high, mid and low.

So, I wonder what is the better idea to use the external EQ device in addition to the built-in EQ on the Mixer? Would it help in Live and Recording Mixing?

Thank You,
Alan

depends how good your board is...if you have a mackie you want to go external eq all the way cuz IMNSHO they suck! you get decent board eq when you get into the sound craft, topaz, midas range...

GASP!

you said something on mackie sucks! could it be!? could it possibly be that something sucks on the almighty mackie!? equalizing is common when it comes to studio and live performances...go ahead and buy one or two....sometimes I've seen 5 but thats usually each person in the band wants a certain eq that they put on the amp before the signal goes to the mixer. when a singer has his own portable rack of effects....be afraid ..be very afraid

True, the EQ on Mackie boards ain't that great, but outboard EQ worth having will cost you about $500 and upwards PER CHANNEL. You do the math... :D

Agreed... outboard EQ worth having is pretty pricey.... I'm not too keen on the Mackie EQ's either, by the way.
