I like music. What can I do?
Hey Simon,
sound -> microphones -> mixing board -> recording medium (tape, hard drive) -> CD, tape....voila!
Seriously, the guys here answered you so glibly because you asked a fairly broad question.
I didn't listen to your tunes because I didn't feel like becoming a member but, considering you asked this question, I'm guessing you haven't thought this through too much. Hopefully, I can help you focus your intentions towards a more appropriate course of action.
First off, there are far more specific questions to ask yourself and us than "how to set up a studio."
The first that come to mind are...
What do you want to do?
Do you want to build a home studio as this bbs' name suggests or a commercial facility to make money as an owner?
Do you want to learn the arts of the studio to record yourself or learn enough to be comfortable there as an artist?
Do you want to learn to produce, engineer?
Do you want to understand how the different components of a studio work or simply start a checklist of what you need to buy?
Dragon made a good suggestion about trying to get a walkthrough at a pro facility to see *how it's done* but I know I wouldn't have been comfortable walking in and with no prior knowledge so some due dilligence is probably in order. This is the best place I know to do that research so you're in luck!
Knightfly also pointed you towards a great resource as far as reading material. If you're ready to absorb all that's there, great. If not, you ask questions here. that's what we all do. If you feel like answering my questions directly, I'll tell you where I would go with your answers.
Good luck and keep on hipping and hopping....
