Hmm. Cheapest way possible is to plug the mic that came with the computer into the mic in on your soundcard and click start/programs/accesories/entertainment/soundrecorder and then click record. Of course it will sound cheap because it was, basically free. You'll find there is a correlation between what you spend and how good it sounds. The more you invest in equipment the better your recording will be. The most important investment if you are serious about learning to record is your time. Using good equipment will get you only so far. It's your knowledge, technique, understanding and talent that will affect your recordings the most.
Besides all that crap, there are freeware and shareware programs on the web(use google) that you can use for now to do some multi track recordings. Do some searches on this website to learn how to record drums and guitars. There is tons of info here for you to learn. Just read, read and read some more. It's free and good luck.
