How do I make a mixtape?

One thing I haven't mentioned, is that the tape deck is European, has a different power cable and the tapes go in "upside down," compared to how they do here in England, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it? It plays/rewinds etc. fine, although it doesn't have any speakers which makes this whole thing ten times more annoying than it should be.

Bad cable maybe. Any day of the week, I can find a tape deck at Goodwill for $5.

Shouldn't make a difference. I assumed by your username that you were in the US.

Is there any way I can check if it's just the cable, or if I'd need to get another tape deck? Are you sure my PC sound setup looks right? I'm clueless about that kind of stuff and have no idea if the devices that I have set to default are correct.

I'm kind of in a rush to get this mixtape done and this is absolutely doing my head in. I'd just do it tape to tape if I had time to look for each and every cassette separately. Shit I'd pay someone to make it for me and send it me, haha!

Yeah, I didn't think it would. No idea what's wrong then. And nah, just an avid Kerouac fan. :)

Do you have headphones to check if the PC jack is putting out signal? You can use an ohms meter to check the cable, or just buy a new one.

PC jack is definitely putting out signal, and I've tried both the output from the back of the PC directly into the motherboard, headphone jack at the front of the PC as well as the headphone jack in my speakers. No luck at all. I don't have an ohms meter, but the cable is brand new.

It sounds like the last suspect is the tape deck itself. Pressing Rec and Play at same time correct? Sorry if that is obvious. I suppose it is possible the deck just does not work. That's all I can think of. :(

Yeah, that's the conclusion I've come to. I'll send it back then, as it's all I bought it for in the first place. Is there any kind of small, hand-held tape recorder I could buy to make mixtapes from PC/MP3, or am I going to have to get another tapedeck? I've been looking around for anything, really, but I have no idea what will do what I want and what won't.

I am curious why you want cassettes for your mix tracks? Tape decks are very cheap around here.

It's a present for somebody. So I really am serious about paying for someone to make and send it to me. I'd have liked to have done it myself, but time's running out and if that's my only option...

20. It's just under 90 minutes, and I can put them in a .rar and send them via e-mail or whatever.

I would suggest looking for someone locally. I suppose I could do it for you, though not real sure where to find cassettes locally or how long shipping would take from here.

Yeah I have been. Really struggling. If you could do it and have it to me by next Sunday (pretty sure it won't take more than 5-7 days 1st class) I'd be very interested. I'll cover any shipping costs/cost of the cassettes too, of course.

I gotta see if I can find cassettes locally first. I'll get right back to ya.

Alright, I'll send you a PM with my e-mail address so you can get back to me there if you do find them. Really appreciate the help either way mate. Thanks.

Do you have any recorded cassettes anywhere that you can check to see if the machine actually plays anything? Perhaps it's not the signal in that's the problem....

Man... mixtapes...

I had a bad experience with a mix tape and an ex-girlfriend once...
