in fruity loops, there is this flute sample, that has a rather nasty popping at the end of it. i tried just clipping it off, but the end of it no matter what still pops. I want to correct it in sound forge 4.0 XP, but dont have a clue how. Can anyone clue me in. its a wav file btw.

I'm sure this isn't the only way to do it, but this is how I do it. Open your exported wav in Sound Forge and zoom in on the very end of the sample. Select a few milliseconds and then do a fade out. Repeat the process at the start of the sample with a fade in. DO NOT just cut off the end, this alters the length of the sample and you'll find yourself wondering why your samples aren't syncing up in the middle of the song.

unfortunately that didnt work to well, its still there but not as apparent.

oops, that worked rather well. care to explain why i have to fade in the beginning as well as fade out the end?

It's because you need the wave form at the beginning and end to be the same. Otherwise, the pop you hear is the jump from one level to another. The only way to ensure this doesn't happen is a brief moment of silence. You could have the beginning and end set to the same level, but it still may not work as the tones may be different.

The information that elevate shared with you was correct.

You should also remember that the next time you truncate your sample, make sure that you cut wave as it traverses the 0 line (that will ensure that you won't get any pops or clicks). ;)

Another thing I forgot to mention is that if you can actually hear the sample fading in and out, then you selected too much for your fades. Zoom way in there when selecting.

I need to clarify that....... When truncating in Sound Forge. ;)
