how can i limit the noise l
evel and inference?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order for me to get a hot signal ..there seems to be too much noise..I am using an Avalon 747 for a compressor/ equalizer...and my preamp is cheap...
what can I do...I am using a good condenser mic..rode K2 and audiotechnia 4033..and I want to do some stereo recording...with everything.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I realized that my vt Avalon 747 is not a pre amp..that is why I wasn't a level...now I have another issue.

1) Get all other add-on functions out of there untill you get past -job one. ;)
2) Sig to noise of the source; a noisy guitar/amp combo for example?
3) Sig to noise in the room; a quiet source in a noisy room?
4) Optimum levels at all points? This includes back at #2, the source, if need be.

could someone please tell me why i see so many people on this forum writing about how they have such nice pre's or compressors and then they have some shitass piece of equipment in the signal chain? seriously it seems everyone here an avalon pre....i think money could be spent in better ways.........ah sorry thats my little rant thats been building up. maybe someone can give me a good answer to my question. now back to the real topic.

the cheap pre is the only missing link

we live in a imperfect world.
people are not perfect...
the avalon 747 really enhances the sound and it makes the music sound more professional...If I could I would get the expensive pre...but I wanted the quality acoustic baby grand...and people have to set priorities..for some people...who are not pianists...the guitar they buy could be under 20 grand and sound wonderful...
the piano is 20 thousand dollars...
that is why i have a cheap pre.
but that is important to me.
the piano in my living room is a joy to play...
and i would rather have less then perfect recordings and be able to enjoy a great piano for a lifetime.

What about the noise issue then? Even a low ball pre sould a least cut it in that department. :D

I'd rather record a fabulous sounding piano with a budget pre, than with an expensive one using an inferior sounding piano. Most of the budget pres made today are more than adequate for producing a decent quality sound; hence, the mic, mic pattern, and acoustic source are what I would focus on.

Regards.
