I think you mean a DIXON's mixer? There are various models, tell us which.

You will be told here that you really need an Audio Interface not a mixer but to proceed with what you have...
Bet the mixer will have 4 "RCA phone" sockets on the top marked " CD/TAPE" in and out. These need to be connected via two RCA to 3.5mm stereo jack plug leads to the laptop.

That, sorts the hardware but there is still a long way to go before you can record an play sounds. You need some recording software, aka "DAW" and at least to start, download "Audacity" (from Ninite.com).

But you will be back, banjaxed Mr "Producer", you will be back!

Dave.

Audacity is an okay audio editor that does a bad job of standing in for a DAW. Might as well start someone out with an actual DAW like Reaper.

Yeah, always a tough call. But with someone as noob as this Audacity is about as simple as it gets plus everybody and their unncle has Aud and knows how to set it up.

If our "producer" gets to grips with the technology I have outlined so far he can progress to Reaper. Even better he could buy a KA6 with Cubase and do a Proppa Jaab!
