I've never actually used one and they seem like a pretty good deal. Anyone have any experience with recording these? Also, how is the build quality?

i'm curious too. i need something to plug the old Sunn Model-T into!

They're a big bang for the buck. The build is excellent for this price range. I've got 2 2x12 cabs and a 4x12.

One 2x12 is open back with a G12H30 and a V30 - great for lower volume recording and playing. The G12H30 has a nice sounding bottom end and great for classic rock and jazz sounds. I like this cab with my Univalve.

The other 2x12 has V30's in it and a closed back. It's pretty damn loud and very tight sounding. Sounds great for just about everything and more aggressive rock/metal sounds. The 4x12 has Hellatones in it...simply put...too loud for the practice room...very loud when cranked up and never a rattle.

Again, a really good bang for the buck. They have an Ebay site too btw.

I just got a chance to record for the first time with my avatar 2x12
running my orange rocker 30 into it, it's a closed back with 2 V30s in it...
sounds great! Records really well. and a great deal. I got the contemporary model with the really thick and heavy wood, but I've heard the lighter / cheaper ones sound great too. But this one had the look i needed with my orange head... again, sounds great, you wont be let down.

I'm thinking of getting a 2x12 for a custom tube head I going to have built. I have one of the guy's on loan for recording right now and it's unreal. SO dynamic...SO smooth...and GREAT cleans. The dirty channel is to die for. Very dynamic and harmonically rich. When compared to my Dual Rec, the dirty channel on the Dual Rec sounds VERY compressed.

Don't get me wrong, I still love my Dual Rec. I just love this amp too. 50w and freakishly loud.

Anyway, that's why I was asking about the Avatar cabs.

I just bought a G412 Vintage with Greenbacks on it to go with the ENGL head I also recently bought, haven't recorded with it yet but it sounds REALLY good, I opened it when it came just to make sure it had the speakers I ordered and the thing is built like an atomic bomb shelter. It also came pretty well packed, it took me half an hour just to get the thing out of the box.

Here's a pic of me and my new rig just about to unchain the thunder :D

I've recorded mine several times and it seems pretty easy to find the sweet spot with the mic. Although I can't prove that its the cab. :D

I'm running a 2x12 open back with 2 tonespotters. Here's a recent cover I collaberated on with zed. Rain Recorded with a 57 about 6" away .. but of course, there is alot going on in that chain for it really to mean anything I suppose.:p
