I was offered this mic really cheap. I have read that it is better than a SM-57
Has anyone tried it yet? The response on them both is pretty close. I was looking to use it for snare, guitar, and vocals. Help?

I just picked one of these up on ebay and did a casual comparison to a SM57 and Sennheiser 421 through a PA miking vocals and various instruments. The i5 has lots more bass than the other mics, and is brighter than the 57. It doesn't have the warm midrange of the 57 or the detailed clarity of the 421. Scooped mids. Much more handling noise than the other mics. Might make a decent, inexpensive kick drum mic but I haven't tried it in that application yet.

You and I have TOTALLY different SM57's. I've never thought of the 57's mids as warm...?

Scooped, eh? Doesn't sound like it would work outstandingly on snare and guitar.

Sm57

I'm totally confused on what application to use the 57 for.
