I jsut bought a m-audio preamp and im trying to record my drums so im using my two inputs on my firewire 4/10 for the bass and snare and using the two inputs on the back for over heads. I have everything hooked up correctly and in my mix window i have sounds from my bass and snare but no sounds from my overheads on the pre amp.

i have them set for in 3 and in 4 with outputs on 1-2. can anyone help me

which preamp?
You getting input VU meters moving on the 3-4 inputs? What software?
What kind of mics? are the condensors, do you have pahntom power turned on?

I'm using an M-audio buddy 2 channel preamp with m powered pro tools 7. I'm not getting any sounds out of the two pre amp channels. I have phantom power on and im using audio technica mb 5k mics as overhead (i know not good) but its the only other mics i have. umm just using some generic cables from Guitar center.

You can only use 2 of the Firewire 410's analog inputs simultaneously. IE, number 1 on the front, or number 1 on the back, with number 2 on the front, or number 2 on the back.

To actually use the "4" in's m-audio has, you have to use 2 analogs and then gain your other 2 via the digital in's on the back. If your preamp has digital outs (S/PDIF) feed those into the digital ins on the 410.

The Audio Buddy pre does not have digital outs. Honestly, I'd sell or exhange the audio buddy and get something with digital out and better pre's. You could get something like this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...eamp-with-Digital-Out?sku=180631&src=3SOSWXXA

That's the cheapest I can find.

man this sucks the guy told me this would work. so there is no way for me to run 4 mics at once without that thing in the link

Nope.

If you just got it, take it back. You're going to have to have a digital signal to get to use those two additional ins.

I bought one of these a while back under the same impression. If i were you, i would go for the Projectmix, or just an 1814 if you're low on cash. I think the 1814s go for a little under 350 on ebay, so you may actually save a little bit of money if you bought the 410 new. What program are you using with the maudio stuff?
