I recently bought a new mixer and it only has XLR outputs. 2 one left and one right and it also has a XLR monitor output. Where and how do I connect it to my pc? please helpp me anything would help. Thanks Joe

Does the mixer have tape-out jacks? These are typically RCA type jacks. You could use those instead of the XLR main outs.

Assuming you have a plain 'ol commodity sound card (with a 1/8" mic input and a 1/8" stereo line-in), you'd need a Y-adapter cable with 2 RCA male connectors on one end and stereo 1/8" phono on the other end.

Does that mean you can record directly onto the hard drive of any PC? Can u put the seperate instruments onto seperate tracks that way?

you cant put separate tracks with that mixer...
you need a good pci card
say the delta 44, 66, or 1010

but u can use the mixer to record instruments (but the bad thing is...they all have to be on one track)

I wondered if there was any USB souncards that are as good as the delta sound cards...and i wondered if anyone could tell me where to get them...thanks Chris

I am running a Behringer 6-channel mixer (which for me is overkill) into a soundblaster audigy 2. Since the sound card only has 1 input, that means you can only record 1 track at a time. If you want to record, for example, 4 tracks simultaneously, you need 4 inputs on your sound card. You can, however, cheat a little bit. What you can do is record a stereo track (ie. 2 channels on 1 track, left and right) and have 1 input on your mixer panned all the way to the left, and 1 input panned all the way to the right. Then once its recorded, you can just split the left and right channels into 2 separate mono channels. But with 1 input, this is the most you can possibly do. Otherwise, everything you send into the computer will sound good, but will all be in 1 track.

Hopefully this helps.

All XLR outs means that its balanced outputs, if you will be hooking it into a sound card, you will need to either make or buy some connectors, remember that the output is still line level, not mic level and probably a better quality of mixer as well...1/8 or 1/4's on your sound card.... just google some wiring diagrams....Radio Shack or Guitar Center for the parts or the actual connector cables...

If u have a mixer with inserts or direct outs you can use the inserts to record into differant inputs of your soundcard!

Hey I have a mixer with Main Inserts/ Main outs , CD/Tape (2 white 2 red ) , and Subgroub outs.

How Would I go by hooking my mixer up.

Could I use my audiophile 2496 to hook it up through the red and white cdtapes to record sound coming from the mixer. Or should I use the main inserts and outs with another piece of equipment other than the 2496.

I also have a 410 which I had trouble hooking up the mixer.

iproduce - if you have subgroups you should be able to direct a mic channel (input) to a subgroup. which will then feed the sound card.
or look for direct outs on your mixer input mic/line channels.
i dont know what your mixer is so cant comment further.
for monitoring with phones you can take sound card stereo out into a stereo amp then plug phones into a phone jack on the amp. if you have a small mixer this means you dont need to monitor from sound card out using it and maybe having to switch between mic and line.
i have essentially two mixers. one for recording feeding the mic signals to sound card and a monitor mixer to take output from sound card and feed it to main monitoring as well as to phones for musicians.
