Hooking my VCR up to my Soundblaster

I have a SoundBlaster Live Value hooked up to my VCR with a miniplug-to-RCA Radio Shack cable. I have a Pinnacle Systems DC10 plus and was able to record both audio and video from a VHS tape to my computer. However, after I edited it and tried to output it back to VHS, I get video but no sound. Pinnacle Systems recommended testing the Soundblaster card by playing a CD in the CD player and then using record on the VCR. They said I should get audio recorded on the VHS tape. I didn't. Does anybody have any idea what I should be doing?

Make sure that your computer's VOLUME CONTROL is set properly.

goto START

then PROGRAMS

then ACCESSORIES

then MULTIMEDIA

then VOLUME CONTROL

make sure your WAVE OUT, LINE OUT, and AUX OUT are not muted.

that might help (I hope :) )

If it doesn't work, post us back.

Well, Pinnacle's suggestion is a bit misleading. This is assuming you have a cable running from the CD-Output of your CD-ROM to an input on the DC-10+ (or into your SBlive, and out to an in of the DC10). This is could be inside or outside the computer case btw.

I see a few possible solutions:

1. You run a mini-stereo-plug from the output of your SBLive! to an input on the DC10 - this would be outside the computer case.

2. Inside the computer case, you have a connector on the SBlive, indicating it's an output (not sure of this). That output would go to an input on the DC-10+ video card. This would be an internal cable between your SBLive! and the DC-10+. You may have got this cabling with your pinnacle and/or SBlive.

There is no line-out balance setting. Maybe the Soundblaster Live Value isn't capable of doing this! I tried most of the variations on the mute and volume settings.

On the Soundblaster card technical specifications in the manual, there is a diagram that points to a "Line Out jack" - which "connects to powered speakers or an external amplifier for audio output." I have my speakers plugged into that, but I also tried running from that jack to my VCR.

Then the card has a "Rear Out jack" which "connects to powered speakers or an external amplifier for audio output".

I am really ignorant about these things. I assume it should be possible to do what I'm trying to do.

This is a real low-end $89 Pinnacle capture card. It says in the manual that it relies on your sound card to do all the audio stuff. There aren't any jacks for audio on the DC10+ card. On their web site and others I found there are numerous posts from people about Soundblaster compatibility with Pinnacle products.

Oh well. I guess I'll just keep trying things.
