Nice looking pair of Adam 7 for just over £250 on preloved but no way to hear them,I'm off to check the Yamaha and a few others out shortly.
Looks like I can get a brand new pair of the Yamaha with a 4 year no quibble warranty for £238 from a place that stocks most of the major brands so if I'm not happy I'll be able to exchange, not much of a saving but £32 is £32 and will pay for all the leads I need as well, looks like the best deal for a product that has 95% 5 star reviews.

IMO, monitors with 5" drivers are too weak in the low end to be effective without addition of a sub.

^This. The only exception though, might be a very tiny room. You don't want too much low end in a small untreated room. If you absolutely positively just have to get something in the 5 range, my advice would be the Tannoy Reveals. They beat the KRK 5s hands down in my book.

Just got back with a pair of the Yamaha's HS50M,tried them against some other yammy's and some rockits in the shop and the other stuff sounded like ordinary hi-fi speakers to me,these Yamaha are very dry and crisp and I have no doubt they'll do the job very well but I don't think I'll be using them to relax with.Time will tell, just going to have some dinner and I'll set them up.

If you want a set of these with a 4 year warranty and you're in the UK there's 2 places I know of that will do that for you for £238,normal online price is £270 a pair. PMT online and DV247 both offer these at £270 but if you tell them you found the same unit at imuso for £238 a pair they'll price match for you and you can have the best price and the extended warranty.
:)
PMT just gave me 2x3m Stagg TRS/XLR cables for a tenner as well so I walked out with both monitors and the cables I needed for less than £250,I'm happy with that.

It's magic how that stereo image appears and I can now hear a lot of imperfections in old tunes. Some guitar I recorded myself now sounds a lot more like it should and the synths I use are revealing a lot of noise that I was not aware of before.
Thinking of a dedicated seating/stand system for them and maybe hacking into the walls to place some cable runners out of the way.
Will definitely need a sub tho. I'll run them at half volume for 25 hours or so to break them in a bit then have a fiddle about with the eq and maybe link a sub in.
Very careful placement required here.

Quick update,
The Yamaha's are working well I feel, overall pleased with the purchase.
I'm going to look at adding a woofer now.
