Ok so I have my soundcard installed and everything else, the mic works the preamp works, everything is recorded on the track as I can see the wave record my voice levels....however, something is fucking with my audio...I can't hear a damn thing that I record. Playback is screwed, don't know why...possibilities?

MXL 990 Mic > Preamp > Audiophile 192 (soundcard) > Behringer UB 902 Mixer (I think) and I have the Audiophile set as my default playback thingy and everything, I have most of the proper cables and connector but I'm not for sure...cables I have are 2 XLR cables to go from the mic to the preamp then preamp to soundcard, then I have 2 TRS to RCA cables to connect from the soundcard to the mixer and finally headphones running from the mixer back to me

what is the software you are recording with? If the audiophile is ste as the default playback, that setup ought to be working, so something must be wrong there, or in your mixer.
Where are the outs on the card plugged into the mixer?

to be honest I think the problem does lie in the mixer...I use cool edit pro 2.1 for all my editing and recording, I have my TRS to RCA coming out of my main out L and going into my RCA input on my mixer

I'm baffled to be honest, I thought I knew for the most part what I was doing but something is a miss and it seems like I have everything connected correctly

why?

i dont get it, why are you using a mixer? why dont you just go from the outs on the audiophile to your monitors or headphones?

because I want to hear the beat and my vocals through my headphones without them recording together, so I know where I'm at on the instrumental with my vocals and not just laying my vocals hoping I'm gettin the tempo and flow correct

whatever

i dont see the need for neg rep points. you could just use a headphone amp from the outs, cheaper and simpler than a mixer. or you couldve just detailed the other reasons why you need the mixer. it wasnt clear in the first post.
also, if the track isnt armed in cool edit, you can hear it but choose not to record it.
