My band is building our first home studio at our drummers house.

We have a:
1) trident mixing console
2) profire 2626 audio interface
3) and Mac mini cpu
4) pro tools 12

We are wondering how to hook everything up properly. I believe the profire goes to CPU via profire to usb cable. Does the mixer need to go straight to the CPU as well? How?

Profire goes to mixer via line outputs in the back? Via quarter inch cables, but where do they go in the mixer? The line input for each channel or the bussing track?

Big newbie here. Any info helps

Profire goes to the computer. Mixer goes in the closet or up for sale. Do your mixing in Pro Tools.

Pretty sure the Profire uses a firewire interface, so you need that and not USB. But double-check to be sure.

Ditto on the mixer, use the DAW. :D

Or just give the Trident to me. Then I'll take tracks and mix through that.

Come on.....I'll pay for shipping. :D

What? Noooo.. Is the mixer really that outdated? It was handed down to us so we wanna put it to some use. It's a 24 channel analog trident mixer.

The Mac mini doesn't have a profire input so what would be the cable I'm looking for that goes from 2626 to CPU?

It's not that the mixer is outdated or old, which it might be, the mixer is unnecessary. You have the profire which will bring your raw audio into the computer where you use Pro Tools to mix it. It is better to not make any adjustments to your audio signal until after you have all your tracks recorded. That way you make adjustments based on the what the song needs with all the tracks working together.

For the profire, you need firewire. Maybe thunderbolt might work, but I'm not sure. If all you have is USB, then you need to somehow add firewire, or get another interface, or get another computer.
