Home Recording with a new Mac G5

Hey, I was about to get started in home recording and I have no idea what I needed. I just bought a new powermac G5, but I don't know what else I need. I want very good to professional sound, but remember that I am a college student on a budget. I want to get into music production, so what do I need to/should I get for this task. I want to be able to put tracks together and add effects and I want everything I would need to have an effective home studio that revolves around the G5. Any suggestions?
