Hey GT... ever the wise and sage adviser! :)

BTW, my girlfriend is a Pom... do you know her? :laughings:

Good to see this thread getting a little less narky. Without wanting to start another slanging match, I always thought the bulk of latency occured in the D/A A/D converter buffers?

Oooh, sharp. Mind you don't cut yourself ! ;)

That did not come out as I wanted. I was pretty good at it and won almost all of my old gear, but the pay wasn't that great and I wasn't very happy. In the computer industry they payed well, good benefits so for me it was a real job but if I were good enough to be a good musician, I would consider that a good job too. My point was I was not to happy for 7 years and didn't consider it much of a job and while I got some experience, I do not think it makes me a formost expert in music or that my opinion is more or less valid than someone elses. (like some people like to think)

Not sure of the reference, but for me. I have a great job, I make enough money to have music, motocross, photography, boating, street bikes, and some other hobbies. I could not be happier and if the other guy knows more than I do or that he has had 13 more years doing something I really didn't care for, no skin off my nose.
Even if you are actually only planning on recording one thing at a time, it makes sense to have a few recording inputs (I'd say at least 4) because one thing about recording, it's a good bet that you'll progress and get more fanciful as your imagination is unchained and then unleashed and you might even have a drummer move in next door........

I agree, better to grow into than out of IMHO. Firewire is good at streaming and that is basicly what happens to sound when it is sent down a light pipe.

To continue the one lane highway analogy. USB2 is a motorcycle, quick of the start and very fast, but if you go any distance or have to make corners, a fast care will eat it up (firewire). So I guess it is how you define fast.

Actually, it didn't come across negatively, I was just joking. I hear the term 'real job' alot. To me every job is, even if it isn't what one wants at that time.

It's a line from the song "10 figures" by the Alpha Band. I've been listening to their "Interviews" LP for 22 years but I noticed that line for the first time yesterday and the way T. Bone Burnett sang it just made me laugh and laugh. I've no idea what it means but I used it to sort of say that often we do things with good intentions, not to compete or show someone up but somehow, things end up in these flame grilled cyberwars. I'm not really wishy washy but I often find that sometimes, the seemingly opposing points people are making and getting into 'grip and grapple' about are things that can easilly be harmonized. It's not so much that I'm hugging trees in pursuit of world peace, I just don't fancy world war at this stage of the game. Well, at least not till I've finished all my songs ! ;)
