Hi,

I'd like to ask for recommendations from you guys.

Apparently, the EPson R220 has just been sold out here recently. I live in DUbai BTW so i don't have that much of an option either.

Anyway, after searching most of the shops here, i've come across some of them, particularly the HP photosmart C4183, EPson R270 & Canon IP5200 (well atleast that's what those salesmen said - that it can print directly to printable cds as well). I soon researched the web for any necessary infos about these products. Unfortunately i found none and now i'm just not too sure if they can print to CDs as well.

ANy suggestions on this?


Lightscribe would be my last resort though.

I've been using an Epson R200 for a year now for both audio CDs and video DVDs. Zero problems. Any of the CD-printing inkjets works great, the upper-end of the line just gives you a few more stand-alone features but any of them will do well.

Just make sure you get quality inkjet-printable discs.

The HP and Canon printers you mention DO NOT print on CDs (I'd stay away from that salesman from now on....), only sticky CD labels (yuk!) If you want to print directly on CDs, you need to go with the Epson or the much much more expensive Bravo Primera or Rimage.
 
I have a 220 here that I'm pretty thrilled with -

Keep in mind that inkjet on a CD is VERY fragile - It's not waterproof (ever - even after a year), it's not smudgeproof, scratch resistant, etc. It's NOT like silk or color thermal transfer.
 
Yeah, most salesmen in here don't know what they're selling.

Soul, I know you live in a faraway land, but I just picked up an R200 for about $85 in the US (online retail). A good, simple, cheap solution for printing small quantities of CDs.

with that in mind; so the lightscribe program isn't good?
 
where can one buy that Epson printer....seems as if everyone out of stock

Lightscribe is nifty - *IF* you don't mind waiting 20-30 minutes to label a disc and *IF* you don't mind using *their* discs.

The software that comes with it is great - Although it certainly isn't a "design" software for the most part. But if you have a background in mind, the Epson software, although a little clunky, is very capable of manipulating it and the text.
 
I just want to add that they have just started comming out with smear and water resistant printable cd's for inkjet printers.

I don't know much about them except Primera and Imation are the only companies I know that make them. I know they available in the U.S., but I don't think they sell them in canada yet. Maybe I'm wrong.

If your looking for an Epson R220. There is usually someone on ebay that selling one and I've also seen them in Radio Shack or Source city. That was I while ago I don't know if they still have them.

Looks like they have the current Epson line available. I absolutely love my printer. Yes, I wish it was faster and I wish I didn't have to manually load each disc. But, for about $100, it absolutely serves my light duty purpose. Seems pretty efficient on ink as well.
