You're ok in my opinion Dave, welcome to the board. I thought your offer was nice.

I hope in the future that people will have a little more jurisprudence before telling someone to fuck off. Perhaps some of us may welcome and enjoy such things as participating in some radio format, and when those of us that are not interested become hostile it can ruin it for everyone.

Why not those that are not interested just ignore threads of this nature and leave it to those who would welcome it. I mean in the future I'd hate to see someone get a genuine opportunity ruined because someone else in the bbs douchebagged it.
We're not crabs in a barrel pulling each other down are we?

I agree with you so much it physically scares me, lmao.

Nice post.

(oh, btw - b/f somebody reminds me that they don't really give a fuck what I think, I already know that - I just wanted to say something nice for a change)

Yes we are, yes we are.

No we are not.

My only point, is the continuous persistence of this type of marketing. Maybe I'm paranoid of it, maybe you are not.

If you are cool with it, cool, if not, cool.

Oh for fuck's sake. Nobody told anyone to fuck off. The first snotty comment came from - surprise - *Dave*. Go back and READ the damn thread. Dachay made a very polite suggestion that Dave's posting was inappropriate. Dave responded sarcastically. I agreed with Dachay, but I gave Dave the benefit of the doubt right from the get go.

I said then and I say now THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DAVE. His post just prompted a discussion. That's it, folks. A discussion. Mostly civil. As dobro pointed out, every time Dave posted it was, seemingly, with the intent of stirring up trouble. The only hysteria here was on his side.

And yeah, once it became clear what a fucknut he was, I treated him as such. And once it became clear that his posting at this point amounts to the acts of a pathetic troll, I stopped responding to him at all.

I think you people who are raging about what a terrible reception your Golden Boy got might wanna go back and actually read the thread.

It tells a very different story than has been painted by Dave and his allies.

In case you've somehow still missed it, here it is again: the point was never whether Dave was "on the level" or not. The point was: do we want to have to discern whether every spammer is on the level or not, or should we just say no to spam, period, and risk losing the occasional chance at internet stardom.

The group has spoken and I accept that (it's not really THAT big a fucking deal), but fer chrissake, quit whining about what beasts we were to the fucking corporate shill. He was treated with way more respect initially than he deserved (or gave us).

Chris

It was the guys first post for cryin out loud. Cut him some slack. How is he gonna know our unwritten code of conduct and that we're freakin anal retentive about spam or potential spam-like content? If Dave dumped posts advertising his show all over the BBS i'd be on his case in a second. One post does not constitute spam.

It sounds to me like you're taking out frustrations you may have had with previous radio experiences, out on Dave.

I haven't seen the attitude in his posts that you have, maybe you're the one projecting this into them. If anything he has a right to be defensive at times, wouldn't you if the first thread you started became a 200 post behemoth on whether you were or were not in fact 'the devil'?

Agh, I give up. Khompy, either you're being deliberately obtuse, or I'm living in some parallel dimension. Either way, I'm pooped.

Well, let me be the first to eat some crow, and apologise to Dave.

I jumped the gun before all the facts were in.
It was just one big silly misunderstanding.

A lot of people are close, and have no problem coming to each others defense.
I'd hate for him to think we are a bunch of jerks here, not true.

I read all his posts and the N-track stuff,he seems like a pretty cool guy,and I think what he is doing is great.

Hey,if he played a Jamal song,he's allright in my book!

Anyway,nuff said.

I'm going over to Dairy Queen and get this taste out of my mouth.
Crow,Yuk!:D

Pete

Well I'm not going to eat crow. The forum policy that you agree to (and I'd actually read it if I were going to promote my business here) states that solicitations are inappropriate. Dave even realized he might be doing something wrong. He said "shameless promotion over" at the end of his post. But then he went and trash talked this forum over at n-Tracks.

Imagine how much better this would have gone over if Dave took the time to listen to some of our tunes and approach individuals rather than spam (ok, solicit) the board. If the first we heard of this radio show was Jamal telling us "there's this great guy with a cool radio station that played my song! He does a show on homerecording. Send him your stuff if you're interested in exposure".

It's a concept called "publicity". Let OTHERS sell your product. It works better and it's a win all around approach. Spam is a destructive force on the Internet. I'm grateful to the people to try to stop it wherever it shows up. Spammers need to be met with hostile reactions in order to keep others away. Go look at the Usenet groups on google to see the damage spammers can do.

Now if Dave wants to try a negative energy/controversy campaign it will probably drive plenty of users to his site. But I don't think he really wants to do that. He seems like a good guy who made a mistake. I hope he learns from it because it seems like he's got a good thing going.

This is a very good point.

I wasn't refering to forum policy,or Dave's posting style.

I jumped the guy,wrongly.
I apologized.
That's all.

As far as anybody else apologizing, hey nobody asked you to.
Know what I mean?:)

Peace,
Pete

Hey Pete. Sorry. I didn't intend that to be a cut down on you. But I can see from my post how you took it that way. I had no problem with anything you said.:)
Peace back at you,
Phil

I'll retract the first part of my post, that was a stupid thing to say. People do care what you have to say Dave. I was in a bad mood, power going on and off etc excuses excuses etc....

Peace all, gotta up the meds.

:)

I didn't have a problem with Dave or his post and I still don't. I might even send him some music (if I ever get caught up on the collabs :D ) and listen to his show. I really have no problen with the mild level of spam that represents BUT......
He was way too quick to get offended over some relatively mild comments. If he really is interested in the talent at this site........then the words of a few wouldn't stop him or run him off. I mean crap!......if you get shot down by a bunch of women....do you run away to your mommy or hide in the closet.
While I don't quite understand why some folks are so adamant about even the tiniest amount of spam.....they are still part of this community and have the right to express themselves. When someone is particularly distasteful, I just don't read their posts. What's the big deal.......who really cares about having every single person at a site like you?
And I'd like to see at N-Tracks if he really trashed this site over such a minor matter. WTF.......like there aren't any folks at N-Tracks that go off on people every once in a while.

I've listened to a few of the archives and Dave's show is good.He has some pretty good guests and the interviews are informative and entertaining. There are'nt a whole lot of places on the internet(not that I know of) where you can tune into to a show that is dedicated to Home Recording.Im glad that he posted just for the simple fact that I doubt I would have ever heard about his show otherwise.

As the instigator of this friggin' nonsense, let me chime back in. I have refrained from commenting, because I already offered my viewpoint, and I was hoping that this thing would eventually just die. Obviously my hopes were misguided.

This was NEVER about Dave. Or Dave's intentions. Or Dave's sincerity. Or the quality of Dave's show. Or how big or small Dave's dick is.

It was simply a comment that I view self-promotion and solicitation as spam, and I'm very sorry, but Dave's initial post was all about self-promotion and solicitation. "I'll Play Your Songs!!"

Whether we benefit from it or not is not, and never was the issue. We benefit from Life Insurance too, but I don't want anyone selling it to me here.

Was it the worst thing I've ever seen? Most certainly not! But where do you draw the line? I don't think you can be a "little bit pregnant." You're either pregnant or your not. And therefore you either allow this stuff or you don't.

As Groucho said, the majority has spoken, and I can certainly accept that. But I'm interested to know where you guys think the line should be drawn. Who's gonna be the one who decides what is acceptable and what isn't?

I'm beggin' you all to let this thread die. Dave has made his pitch and he has played some of your songs. Kudo's to him, he delivered on his promise.

Now if you want to send your songs to me, I will post them on my web site. I'm guessing my site probably gets about the same amount of traffic. <----------- (jk) :)
